10 Thoughts on WWE Smackdown 04.01.2011 – Cody Rhodes, Rey Mysterio, The Miz, The Rock, John Cena

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Reviewing the 4/1/11 episode of Friday Night Smackdown…

1. I bet Kofi Kingston wishes there was a 5th member of The Corre so he can be added to that match Sunday.

2. As hot as the Bella Twins are, you can still tell the difference between Double Trouble or Twin Magic as they so ridiculously referred to themselves later in the program. Listen closely. Brie talks so low with a different type of accent sometimes you’d think she was Randy Orton.

3. It’s amazing from the Hall of Fame promo image how much Drew Carey looks like Jerry Springer now. Seriously, tho what a great video highlighting the Road Warriors being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Much deserved considering just as Jerry Lawler said in the video, that quite frankly, The Road Warriors may indeed be the greatest tag team of all time.

4. If WWE could do a mindwipe and make us forget Wrestlemania 17, they would. However, that victory definitely seems to be currently erased from WWE history. At least as far as Undertaker vs. Triple H hype videos for Wrestlemania 27 are concerned.

5. As cut and dry as some feuds may seem to be ending at Wrestlemania, I’m not so sure of Randy Orton’s victory at Mania. I have a feeling that CM Punk could pull this one out. Randy still has looked strong wiping out The NexXxus leading to Wrestlemania and he can always get his victory at Extreme Rules.

6. Finally adding Shawn Michaels as a known element of sorts to the Undertaker vs. Triple H match at Wrestlemania was a very good move last Monday. To shake the faith of the weak believers of the streak who actually think Undertaker could even remotely possibly lose to Triple H this Sunday. I know because I have encountered some and they should know better. HBK needs to be involved and tie this match into a personal vendetta concocted by HBK & HHH to get back at Undertaker. Although Taker seemed to be the one with a heelish edge to him, at least in the highlights from Raw.

7. Who would have thought Cody Rhodes could have taken Kane’s gimmick from 2003 and make it work today?

8.  Line Of the Night:

On the Conan O’Brien show

The Miz– “Your new name is no longer CoCo. It is the Ginja Ninja.”

9. Match of the Night:

Cody Rhodes vs. Chris Masters

Masters really brings it. I’d love to see him get another push as it looks like he has worked hard to get the TV time scraps he is given. Cody’s new gimmick is very entertaining and I look forward to his matches. Once the bell rings, he attacks. Masters brings intensity as well so it was a very believable and hard hitting match up. The match was very short, but compared to the DQ finish of Barrett vs. Kingston and a show full of highlights, this one won hands down. Rey Mysterio came out for revenge after Cody won, even exposing his knee brace intentionally, but thankfully Cody escaped. Of course he would deserve it after the brutal face beating he gave Rey. It might have been smart on The E’s part to have Rey show some signs of that beating last week to sell it.

10. Final Show Thoughts:

The Go-Home show for Wrestlemania featured a lot of video recaps to hype the biggest PPV event of the year. This week’s Smackdown wasn’t much more than a 2 hour Pre-Show for Mania. What action that was featured was short and there was a lot of Todd Grisham and the Bella Twins which wasn’t entirely bad. The money was in selling Wrestlemania and the show accomplished what it set out to do. This might as well been called Raw 2.0, however as most of the go-home material was taken from last Monday including the show ending FU/Throwback/Attitude Adjustment on The Rock from last Monday.

Show MVP:

Cody Rhodes

With a solid promo and an intense match and highlights notwithstanding, I give the nod to Cody Rhodes for some entertaining first run material.

That is all.
