Arnold Schwarzenegger to Cry Macho

Casting News, News, Projects, Rumors

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been linked to a number of projects to jump start his post-gubernatorial career and now it looks like he’s closing in on his first: long-gestating Cry Macho. But it won’t come cheap, per Deadline.

Cry Macho is based off the novel of the same name by N. Richard Nash, who wrote the screenplay in 2000 after writing the novel in 1975. Commanding $10 million, plus 25% of first dollar gross, Schwarzenegger is looking at this as his return with rumored films including a new Terminator film, With Wings as Angels (as a German soldier rescuing prisoners of war in WW2, The Last Stand and The Tomb.

This particular story revolves around a horse breeder (Schwarzenegger) who won the Kentucky Derby but with a dead wife and child. He sinks into an alcoholic depression and winds up working for a hedge fund jerk who offers him a choice of getting fired or bringing back the rich guy’s son living with the ex-wife in Mexico. Unexpected plot twists ensue, including an Arnold-and-kid road trip back home.

What does this mean? It’s certainly an interesting project for Schwarzenegger, as it was a role that Clint Eastwood circled around for some time but eventually passed on. Arnold usually has a knack for good projects, as well.
