The Rager – Extreme Ragings and The CM Punk Situation

Columns, Top Story

Salutations, my fellow Rageans, to yet another installment of everyone’s favorite Rage-flavored column, The Rager. As always, I’m your indubitable host, Chris, and this has been quite the week.

Lets begin with Extreme Rules rages:
I’m sure I’m not the only person that enjoyed the Orton/Punk match, although there seemed to be a few more slow/dead moments thus making their Wrestlemania match better in my eyes. I didn’t see a whole lot wrong here except I would’ve liked to have seen Punk win to further the rivalry BUT with Orton moving to Smackdown and is expected to be the face of that brand, I can see how Orton needs to come off stronger. Also, with Punk’s contract becoming an issue, we can either expect a sudden push to try to draw him to agree to a deal or a complete burial to make it seem like WEE wouldn’t be losing much. But in regards to the recent rumors and reportings involving CM Punk’s contract situation, here are my thoughts: PAY THE GUY! He’s the workhorse heel for the company who’s willing to work even when injured as a stable-head (Straight Edge Society) or as an announcer. If Punk is feeling underappreciated then WWE needs to learn how to appreciate him. Handle the guy like Jericho, who found himself in this same situation throughout his career, and just let Punk do Punk. Give him a big time significant push and don’t treat him like an after-thought. He’s a main eventer and should be treated as such. Even if his contract wasn’t ending, as I stated in the past, Punk needs to do his own thing by himself and stop with the stable runs. I feel like he’s proved himself that much as a top heel.

Elsewhere in Extreme Rules Raging…
The last-minute US Championship tables match was a pleasant surprise minus Sheamus losing the momentum he managed to scramble together. And I know that it was done merely to get a mid-card belt on Raw but losing to Kofi seemed like Vince just shrugged his shoulders and said “why not” instead of starting a small rivalry with a guy like Chris Masters (yes, I admit that I love the guy and that makes me partial, get over it) or somebody who needs to show what they’ve got. Sad to say, Kofi has had his chances and we know exactly what little he brings to the table.

Over the Limit cures Erectile Disfunction…that’s right, you heard that. WEE reminds us once again about what’s important in life, entertainment, more entertainment and fully functioning genitalia but only due to Over the Limit levels of entertainment.

The only good thing I can say about the Country “Whoopin” Match was that it only lasted about 7 minutes but it was 7 minutes too long. I watched Extreme Rules with a handful of friends and I would just like to note that this match literally put Pulse Wrestling’s own, Joel Leonard to sleep.

I like Falls Count Anywhere matches because its always interested just where the wrestlers/entertainers/contractors are gonna end up and just how they’re going to use their surroundings. What I absolutely hate is the unavoidable climb up the stairs through the fans, it takes so long and it bores me thoroughly. But I do recognize that its a part of the process so I’m gonna end this by simply saying…meh.

Awesome Kharma should’ve been billed as a sibling of Viscera…anybody else see that?

I loved the ladder match with Del Rio and Christian and it was easily the match of the night for me. My one gripe would be I would wished Christian won a bit more straight up and without Edge coming in and honking his Jeep. And Brodus Clay is ok, right? I mean the guy lost some serious blood.

Morrison was easily the mvp of the cage match but as easily predicted, Truth came out and equalized him. And a cage match that ends with a pin or submission is a waste of a cage match.

I really would’ve wished the pay per view stayed on the air long enough to show Cena announcing to the arena that Bin Laden had been killed but such is life and I’m sure they didn’t want to rush into doing something like that officially before the President has a chance to speak. I’ll always remember that I was in 8th grade and in Biology doing some weird experiment with balloons, strings and straws when another teacher came running in and told my teacher to turn on the tv and seeing just before the first tower went down. More importantly, I’ll always remember sitting around on May 1st with some of the most awesome friends after watching wrestling and finding out that the Bin Laden virus had been eradicated. We sat in amazement, we laughed and had celebratory drinks (I had a Capri Sun, of course). I just hope this can finalize the long-overdue healing of American families.

Raw Ragings…kinda
This week’s Raw was more on the Entertainment side and less on the wrestling. The entire episode was dedicated to the Rock and was kind of a throw-away in regards to current storylines (although I see a lot of current storylines fading and new ones beginning anew before Over the Limit).
This was merely a feel-good night for WEE and oddly enough, I’m ok with that. There was a lot to celebrate and it seemed like the company just sat back and decided to enjoy this one and the fans came away happy. Sure, there might’ve been a few disappointed viewers who were left wishing for more at the end of the broadcast. HOWEVER, we did get a rare Vince McMahon sighting and in the books of myself and Joel Leonard, that gives the show outstanding.

Well thats all for this week, remember this moment because in the world we live in today, we rarely get a win like this. Enjoy today and be encouraged for a better tomorrow.
