Brothers & Sisters Episode 5-21 Review

Reviews, Shows

Sarah deals with an identity crisis, and Nora unsuccessfully tries to get over Brody in “For Better or For Worse.” This episode features an important flashback, one that reveals why Brody left Nora, knowing the baby could be his.

Despite Sarah’s paternity issues, there’s still a wedding to prepare for, so Justin helps “babysit” Luc’s horny, rambunctious cousins at their hotel. He runs into his ex-girlfriend Tyler, and after revealing their troubled relationship history, they kiss in the last scene of the episode. Honestly, I don’t remember Tyler, but she seems nice and less annoying than Rebecca, so I might be happy with this turn of events if the relationship lasts into next season (if there is a next season, that is!).

After Scotty and Kevin’s surprise delivery, they’re now taking care of baby Daniel, who at this point most resembles Scotty – fortunately, Kevin doesn’t seem to mind. But, somewhat predictably, Olivia doesn’t adjust well and starts acting out, thinking that she’s been replaced, eventually running away to her old group home. True, the storyline is cliché, but it makes me feel bad for Olivia, and Scotty’s speech to her almost makes me cry. So I can excuse the cliché for once.

Meanwhile, though she tried to put on a brave face after learning that Brody was her father, the implications of it are finally sinking in…and she’s not taking it well. Kitty (who returns after being MIA for a few episodes) and Sarah try to crash Luc’s bachelor party, but when the bouncer demands an ID, Sarah has a breakdown, since she believes her last name was never really Walker. And calls insulted Kitty her half-sister. While Kitty and Kevin understand that love is more important than genetics, Sarah’s having a difficult time accepting the concept.

Before her meltdown, Sarah confronts Brody at a bar, telling him the results but insisting he stay away from herself and her family. Now, come on! I can understand Sarah not handling the news, but telling Brody just so she can have closure is kind of mean. What did she expect, that she’d tell him and he’d say, “okay, nice talking to you”?! If she truly wanted him out of her life, she shouldn’t have gone and talked to him! Simple logic! Then she tells poor, conflicted Nora to stay away from Brody as well.

Nora really can’t catch a break lately. Her heart has already been broken so many times, but she tries to do the right thing and, when Brody shows up, tells him they can’t be together. But he doesn’t give up, so they talk…which leads to the flashback. Of course, Brody’s stupid for not protesting when Nora tells him about William’s proposal (but then again, we still don’t know the specifics of both relationships). In the hospital, William convinces Brody that Sarah deserves a better life than what Brody can give, which is what makes him to lie about his blood type. Nora and Brody end up kissing, then falling asleep in each other’s arms on the couch…which Sarah, wanting to talk to her mother, walks in and sees. Betrayed, Sarah storms back out.

While this is yet another great episode, I’ll be really annoyed if Sarah remains angry at Nora for the “betrayal.” She has to understand that her mother is only human. And hopefully Sarah will learn that there’s more she needs to know about her parents’ relationship before she can judge it, and her biological father.

Now, the next new episode is the finale – season or series, us fans still don’t know yet! Isn’t that frustrating?! Ratings count, so make sure you watch “Walker Down the Aisle” on May 8th!
