Who didn’t see this coming. 20th Century Fox TV and film divisions are producing Glee Live! 3D! (you know it’s a big deal when there are two exclamation points in the title). In the tradition of the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber concert films, this release will revolve around the upcoming Glee Live! In Concert! North American Tour.
The film will have a two-week engagement beginning August 12. It’s competition that weekend will be Final Destination 5 (yes, a fifth one), the R-rated comedy 30 Minutes or Less, and the dramedy The Help, based on the Kathryn Stockett bestseller. The feature will be directed by Fame‘s Kevin Tancharoen.
You really can’t blame 20th Century Fox for wanting to release a concert film based around its hit series. Given its strong following and the recent success of the Michael Jackson concert doc This Is It! and Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never, Fox wants in on the action.
The film features performances by series regulars Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (“Puck”), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum Jr (Mike), Chord Overstreet (Sam), Darren Criss (Blaine) and Ashley Fink (Lauren).
And you can probably expect Glee Live! The Album to arrive around the time of the theatrical release too.
