Will Smith Emerges as Front Runner for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

News, Projects, Rumors

A week ago we found out that Quentin Tarantino will be tackling a spaghetti western.. Travis speculated that a big star like Denzel Washington, et al, would be needed opposite Christoph Waltz the title role of Django, a freed slave who seeks to reunite with his slave wife on a journey that will see him team with a German bounty hunter (Waltz) to take down an evil plantation owner. And one of the names he thought of is now the front runner for the part: Will Smith.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that as Smith, who hasn’t been on screen since Seven Pounds and is currently filming Men in Black III, is QT’s choice for the part of Django. Tarantino also wants Samuel L Jackson in the film, as well, as Jackson would play the house slave to the bad guy, Monsieur Calvin Candie. The slave is an expert manipulator and will face off with Django.

What does this mean? Smith is one of the many big names that hasn’t worked with Tarantino and it would be interesting to see the two together. The script apparently is peppered with some coarse language and Smith isn’t known for salty language in films.

What do you think? Is this a match made in heaven … or is Smith the wrong star for QT?
