NBC Cancels The Event And Law And Order: Los Angeles

News

NBC may have a good thing going with its Thursday night comedy block, but the network is hit and miss when it comes to dramas. Today it was announced that NBC will be pulling both The Event and Law and Order: Los Angeles.

Low ratings were cited as the cause of The Event‘s dismissal. The sci-fi drama got off to a strong start with 11 million viewers for its premiere episode. When the twentieth episode aired on Monday, it had less than 4 million watching. However, the series may not be done completely. Deadline is reporting that talks have begun with distribution partners to take over the drama. One of the names being tossed around is Netflix.

As for the Law & Order spin-off, Los Angeles tried, but was unsuccessful when it did an overhaul to the series in the middle of the season. Dick Wolf got rid of several cast members, including Skeet Ulrich, and gave Alfred Molina and Terrence Howard more prominent roles. What’s sad it that LOLA was put as a replacement for the original Law & Order, which was cancelled after 456 episodes and 20 years on the air. Despite a huge marketing blitz to help relaunch the series after the overhaul, the series was getting ratings that were lower than Law & Order in its final year.
