10 Thoughts on WWE Raw 05.16.2011 – Cena vs Swagger, Kharma Control, Nexus Reborn?, Cole/King Contract Signing vs Swagger

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Welcome to my 10 Thoughts on WWE Monday Night Raw!  Let’s not waste any time and let’s get down to business shall we?  We shall…

1.  I know every writer on this site has expressed their loathing emotions towards John Cena pandering towards the kids, but tonight it seemed worse than ever.  I mean seriously John?  Your comebacks involved Justin Bieber and My Little Pony.  All this does is make little children giggle and make the adults either A) laugh along with the kid in play or B) groan in exasperation of Cena’s horrendous returns.

2.  I was pleasantly surprised by the Punk/Kofi match.  It made both combatants look strong and gave Punk a much needed win.  ALSO, it appears that The Nexus is back on track to greatness.  Sounds like a Win/Win/Win situation, if true.

3.  So apparantly Kharma is thumping Barbie Dolls… erm… Kelly dolls… wait isn’t that the girl?… yeah she’s just thumping Kelly Kelly in the head.  According to the announcers, it means that she can do whatever she wants and that she was showing her willpower.  Sounds good to me.

4.  Rey vs Del Rio surprised me as I missed a lot of their matches on PPV and never really saw them go at it.  It was fast paced and I forget how great del Rio is in the ring.  He is fantastic on the mic and has a great and pretty unique move set in the ring.  Exactly what Bill DeMott, Steve Austin, Trish Stratus, and Booker T are looking for on Tough Enough!

4a.  Truth continues to astound me as an intriguing heel.  This week he appears way up in the nosebleeds to surprise Rey and almost cost him his match against Del Rio.  And I mean c’mon who can’t get behind a guy who says, ‘This Sunday, Rey, you gonna get got.’  You can’t make that kind of stuff up!

5.  Throughout the show’s length, three matches were announced.  First, Rey Mysterio is fighting R-Truth in a ‘Gonna Get Got’ match.  Simple build as Truth wants Rey because… he ‘took his spot’ in the triple threat #1 Contender’s match last week.  Second,  Michael Cole is fighting Jerry Lawler in a ‘Kiss My Foot’ Match.  Yeah I have no comments here other than it’s time for euthanasia on this angle.  Third, the WWE Tag Team Titles are on the line as it is The Alpha and Omega vs CM Punk and Mason Ryan.  I’m glad they decided to go ahead and announce this match this go around.  All in all, not too bad of a card shaping up, but hopefully a few more matches to come from SmackDown.

6.  Did anyone else notice all of the emotions on The Big Show tonight?  He grunted, groaned, and cried as Otunga and McGillicutty wore down his leg.  It was highly convincing and really much more emotion and connection to the suspension of disbelief than I’d ever seen out of The Big Show. 7.  Scott Stanford is a terrible backstage interviewer and a terrible announcer for SuperStars.  I get tired/bored just listening to the guy talk.  He’s so bland.  I actually prefer that Jack guy.  Jack… yeah I forget.  The OTHER PPV presenter/persuader.

8.  The Big Show and Kane’s interview this week was pretty good and I’d love for their team to start being The Alpha and The Omega.  That’d be pretty cool.  Better than the generic ‘Kane and The Big Show’ or a combination of their names ala JeriShow/MizShow.

9.  Jack Swagger breaking away from Michael Cole seems like a mistake as the guy can’t cut a promo to save his life.  Maybe a face turn in the books?  That wouldn’t be a bad move for Swagger I don’t think.  I thought Cole might retire from behind the desk and just manage as CB said in his column yesterday.

10.  The main event was a great match, especially for Raw.  Anyone think that maybe Swagger will be next in line for the title after Miz loses Sunday?  I think it will either be him or Alberto Del Rio.  The best part about the match was that it made Swagger look credible despite him losing.  He was in control most of the match and I think Swagger would do well if placed in a feud with anyone besides Kofi Kingston who just can’t have compelling rivalries.

And quite frankly my dear… that’s a wrap!
