Armie Hammer Puts on Lone Ranger Mask

Casting News, News, Projects

A while back we reported on Armie Hammer being the man in talks to join Johnny Depp in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, a new adaptation of the television show/radio show of years past. Now Variety is reporting that he’s signed on for the film officially.

Hammer will pay the masked lawman opposite Depp as his faithful sidekick Tonto as Depp reunites with Gore Verbinski, whom he shared the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films as well as the recent Rango.

What does this mean? With the intention to reinvent the Lone Ranger and make Tonto a more equal character, at this point you need someone who can play the leading man while Depp steals the scenery ala Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Hammer is a brilliant fit for this as he has that sort of leading man profile that Depp will play off like he did Orlando Bloom.
