The O’Really Report – Michael Cole Manager or Announcer?, Superstars!, The Rock, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler

Columns, Top Story

Welcome to The O’Really Report, your Weekly Wednesday Stop for all things Wrestling!  Today I am featuring a special guest once again and his name is Pulse Glazer!

Hello Pulse Readers, sorry for the hiatus, but I now come to you with combo love. But don’t introduce me.  We’ve met!

We have?…. *awkward silence*… Alright well let’s get to it!

What’s our topic for the day RadMan?

The first topic of the day is one that has been circulating the web since last year around this time… Michael Cole!  Is he that necessary as an announcer or should he be a manager?

No one is neccessary in any role in the current WWE.  They know they’re a product in transition, but the current idea seems for everyone to be in a story, from announcers on down.  The real problem is that this particular story has lasted too long.  Cole can do two roles; it’s just the Lawler story has gone past it’s sell-by date.

I agree.  The feud between Cole and Lawler has lasted for so long for no real new developments.  Nothing has been added since the beginning of the feud with the exception of Jack Swagger getting a little TV time.  However, Cole could have promoted Swagger in a feud with an actual competitor as opposed to Swagger promoting Cole in a feud with another announcer.

Lawler bringing in a secondary competitor to work with him would really be helpful.  Daniel Bryan would have made perfect sense with his history with Cole… but then we can’t go making Glazer happy.  Literally any face sans Santino would work though.

And Kofi.  Can’t waste yet another opportunity on him.  I think Chris Masters could do well in that role or Evan Bourne for that matter.

I don’t think Kofi is wasting a chance at all.  He was excellent in his Orton feud.  He won’t get better in-ring until he has someone to lead him… like Lawler perhaps.

Hmm… perhaps.  If he had a feud with another top star, it might be enough to put him over, but I find it hard to muster faith in him.  The only feud I thought he was rememberable in was Randy Orton.  Besides that, he reminds me of Shelton Benjamin or Carlito.

I don’t want a feud with another top star. I want a program with a top worker since that’s how he’ll improve.  He’s a far better promo than Shelton and nowhere near as inconsistent as Carlito. He also improves, unlike MVP.

Who would you suggest he tie it up with next?

On Raw?  Raw has 15 top heels with no one to work with.  Rey and Cena occupy two of Miz, Punk, Del Rio. He should get the third of that triumvirate.  So of course Punk beat him clean on Raw, but hey… wins and losses are almost never the point anymore.

Unless you are Samoa Joe or Goldberg, but that’s not important.  A CM Punk/Kofi Kingston feud could be great.  I thought Kofi looked great the last time the Nexus attacked him and backed him into the corner where he slashed out at everyone in sight, throwing kicks, punches, chops, etc!

He has great fire that could draw.  I don’t expect him to be Rock or anything, but 2000 Jericho isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

2000 Jericho could be within the realm of possibilty, but with that we’ll transition into our next topic… The WWE Draft!  Now that we are a few weeks away, who do you think has benefitted the most from this draft?

Well, um… the thing is… no one really benefitted.  Bryan maybe?  It looked like they were going to do bold new things with storytelling, but they’ve instead fallen into “rinse-repeat” booking and it’s terrible.  Who has really been elevated, even to the point of just more TV time?

Well the only real person I can think of is Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan.  Daniel Bryan moving was definitely a good move as he can assume a role close to… a veteran ‘wrestler’ on the blue show.  Mark Henry… well it’s definitely different.

Oh, hey, Kelly benefitted.  She’s on TV and in the Kharma story!  There we are.  And Henry? Nah, he’s back to the same heel he was after ECW.

I guess so, but it’s better than being a part of APPLE for both of those gents.  Kelly definitely has benefitted, but I can’t really think of any other changes that has helped in any way.

Well I guess Ted is getting more exposure over on SmackDown, but losing to Cody isn’t much of a debut.

That could be a good story if they turn Ted, humble him and have him try and beat Cody sane.
I just will not give up on Ted’s potential.

I think he could be great! But the ‘could be’ has been there since he released a movie.  He was ‘supposed’ to be the star who shone out at the end of the Legacy feud, but he just disappeared to the bottom of the Raw roster while Cody went to extraordinary heights on SmackDown.

In fairness, he didn’t get a real shot.  Legacy got squashed and he became his father… no one was shining in his father’s role when copied that directly.  It just killed him.  He’s also a natural face, which no one seems to get for some reason.

I thought it was crazy that he and Cody were portrayed as the heels in the Legacy feud anyways.  It would’ve worked better if Ted had gone over as the face turn coat and the other two were trying to eliminate him, but that’s just my take.
Then again around that time Randy started getting the RKO chants.

Fans cheered Orton therefore he had to be a face.  It was absurd.
Just because a guy is cheered doesn’t mean you turn him.  Remember when Rock was cheered right after Nation?  Next thing WWE did then was turn him for the Corporation.

The Rock seemed to swap from heel to face a lot in the Attitude era before finally turning face for good until the Hollywood Rock angle later.

He was essentially always a heel until after the Corporation. He had a minor swerve face-run prior to that. Unless you count the smilin’ babyface days, anyway.

Maybe so, but since we’re on The Rock, how do you feel about already knowing the main event for WrestleMania 28?  The Rock vs John Cena for the WWE Heavyweight Championship. As John says he’ll hold it until then.

I couldn’t really care less.  They ruined this year’s Wrestlemania for me and at the same time took away my excitement for that match.  Luckily for them, I’m the extreme minority.  It’ll sell huge.  I wonder if they have the balls to put Cena over.  Rock never ha da problem jobbing, so I’d hope they do the right thing here.

If that’s the case then it would be the 10 Year anniversary to Hogan putting over The Rock at WrestleMania X8.

Rock won less than any big star… ever.  He’s the ultimate proof wins and losses don’t matter.

Rock has such charisma that he could literally talk the audience into thinking that they didn’t care that he lost.  He worked the mic better than most.

Cena loses a good bit too, despite his reputation.  Of the current crop of big stars, only Orton is really protected.  H was last generation, and Taker prior.

So we have a Rock to Cena connection through generations and we have a Taker to Triple H to Randy Orton connection. Interesting… but transitioning from The Rock… to The Sock, how do you feel about the new TNA, Impact Wrestling?

I don’t care.  I haven’t watched TNA in months and don’t even follow anymore.  They have gone above and beyond apathy for me.

You mean to tell me that the promise of a mistress to Kurt Angle being Chyna and the surprise of Mick Foley as The Network representative didn’t send you flipping channels to Spike?
Wow I felt like S.T.D. there…

Seriously, I’d rather have a random girl I fucked call me with “something they need to talk about” than watch TNA again.

Well that’s some serious hatred there ladies and gentlemen.  Originally that was going to be the closer, but on a lighter note how do you feel about the apparant push coming to Ryder/Hawkins/Kidd on Superstars?

That’d be great.  I love the first and last and really enjoy the middle member.
Masters is more interesting than I thought.  Anyone know what the hell they’re doing with Drew?
They gave him a shot, he made the most of it.  And he was de-pushed anyway.  Why!?

I think all of those stars could do great things if given the opportunity.  Ryder is hilarious on his web show, Hawkins is actually pretty funny, and Tyson Kidd has better mic skills than the WWE gives him credit for.  Plus with Michael Hayes backing Tyson Kidd, it looks like he is getting a big managerial push.
I feel so frustrated with Drew McIntyre..

Another guy who’s a face that they just don’t get.

He’s done everything right and then he has one little fight and his Mom got scared and said your moving with your aunt and your uncle in a town called Bel Air. Erm… if it hadn’t been for that skirmish with his wifey then he would be still getting that push I would imagine.

Yeah, well, I hope the woman he’s going to divorce was worth it.

Well she’s hot… a playmate… couldn’t have been TOO bad… I think he’ll get his push again, but it’s just a matter of time.. hopefully.

Does WWE believe in second chances anymore?

Well… that’s a good point.  Tiffany was fired on the spot, Masters has YET to get a good push despite being one of the lone faces on Raw.  Kofi hasn’t been given a big push really since Orton.

Last guy to get more than one shot was Orton… and he was super over as a heel – just failed as a face.
MVP never got a second push… Kendrick barely got one…

John Morrison has been so start-and-stop it’s crazy, Dolph… I don’t even know about that guy. He gets a ten second reign and then loses it right back and retreats back into Nickylike importance on Raw.

I love Dolph. He’s my favorite of the new-breed, non-former ROH division.

He is great indeed.  I mean his look is great (minus the generic haircut), he is great in the ring, and he just has a certain uniqueness about him.

I don’t disagree at all.  He’s just excellent.  Cody might catch him, but no one else is even close.  I actually like both every bit as much as Miz and far more than Swagger and even Del Rio.

What about the Interrcontinental Champion Wade Barrett and The Corre?

Wade has done nothing since the end of the Cena feud.  I need something notable with someone else.  I like him, but he seems like an ocasional top guy who can be notable on the mid-card.  Corre needs to go away.  If they weren’t going to do the Nexus feud, they don’t need to exist.

Slabriel could be a great tag team and Wade could be a great champion, but together it’s rather unnecessary.  I’m glad Big Zeke is going face as they really need some solid faces.  But now that we have rambled about every sole superstar on the roster… it’s time to bring this to a close.  Thank you Aaron for your time and don’t forget to check out Aaron’s Morning Backlashes.
Any final words Aaron?

Great tag teams won’t happen.  Wade I agree on, as do I with Zeke, of whom I am a fan.  And thanks for your time.  I’ve got a new teaching job, a friend died, and Raw has been terrible, so I’ve been away.  I’ll do my best to find time to return soon.  Thanks for keeping it with Pulse!

Thanks for reading! I’m Rhett, that’s Aaron…
