No Chance – A number of ramdon, unrelated thoughts (Including R-Truth, Vince McMahon, John Cena)

Columns, Top Story

Hi Kids. It’s No Chance time again, and I’m ready to get started. Every week at the end of a column, I throw up a random thought, unrelated to the rest of the column. These usually are about something that doesn’t merit an entire column but still, something that I want to mention. However, as one would expect, these topics tend to pile up quickly and I must say, I have collected quite a small stockpile of them. So this week, Instead of just one random, unrelated thought, I’m dedicating the whole time to these thoughts, just to get a few of them out then and get my count down. So, to business.

Lets Talk a Bit About Mr. Truth…

I know that I’ve already sung the praises of the newly heeled R-Truth, but at this point his promos are what I look forward to the most every week. This past week we even got a little bit extra when he took the Obama sketches, something that may have been the worst PPV promotion in recent memory, and single handedly made it not only watchable, but hilarious. I know that there’s not really a shot of him getting the win at Capital Punishment, but I really hope that he’ll be able to keep this character running strong into the next feud.

…As well as Mr. McMahon

This past Monday I saw something on Raw that I never really expected to see. When Mr. McMahon came out and had a few words with Michael Cole, the crowed cheered for him. I’m not talking about one or two guys who like to cheer heels just to be different. And I’m not talking about people looking past the fact that he’s a heel and just cheering based on the fact that he’s a great entertainer. The entire crowed erupted into cheers when he told Cole to shut up. It caused me to wonder, is there ever a chance that Mr. McMahon could become a face? I would have not thought it possible, but if you had asked me a couple of years ago I would have been absolutely sure that Randy Orton was going to be a lifelong heel, and now look at him. I don’t think that Mr. McMahon will ever become a full on face and fight alongside Cena for things such as respect, but I do suspect that the guy is probably towards the end of his in ring career. And with the Raw GM taking the spot of heel in charge and Vince only coming out to make extra big announcements at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy starts getting more cheers than boos soon.

Zack Ryder Gets In the Ring Again

Thanks to his Internet show, Zack Ryder has gotten more fans that I ever expected the guy to have. So I was among the excited to finally see him back in the ring for the first time in 2011. And when he lost I have to admit I was conflicted. I mean if this guy is going to get a legit push, which he should probably be getting right now, then should he really be jobbing for another right now. Still he did have what was probably his best match ever on Raw. I think his last one was his 11-second match against Sheamus. So I guess WWE couldn’t have him go from that, to beating a belt holder in a single match. Baby steps.

Another Rock and WrestleMania Thought

I know that we aren’t going to see the Rock full time in the ring and I never expected that when his WrestleMania event was announced, but I do wonder how often he might be making appearances between now and then. If Cena loses the belt between now and then (Which I feel like he really needs to do at some point) then would the Rock come back for a week to mention that? I really would like to see just a bit of in ring action from the Rock before WrestleMania. Not a whole feud or anything, just a match or two to tease it. Maybe give the guy a spot in the Royal Rumble, just so he can have a bit of time in the ring.

And One More WrestleMania Thought

Is anybody expecting to see Undertaker at all before WrestleMania? I hadn’t given it much thought before now but now that I take a moment to pause, I’ve got to say, the next time I expected to see Undertaker at all, was when he walked down the ramp at WrestleMania next year. If both he and Triple H don’t show up until post Rumble next year and then any investment I had in their feud, will have been long gone by then.

Taking a Moment to Lay Some Smackdown

I’ve got to say, while Randy and Christian’s story is the most interesting right now, the best guy to watch each week in the ring has been Daniel Bryan. Regardless of his opponent, the guy has been more impressive than any of the main event wrestlers over the past month or so. This is a guy that needs to be holding one of the two main titles within the next few years. Though I do have to wonder if WWE is willing to let Bryan take more in ring risks, especially on a weekly show. Its going to hurt them a lot less if Bryan has to sit out due to injury than if Orton does.

One Year ago…

It’s been a year, almost to the day, from the first time that the Nexus (then still called the NXT rookies) invaded Raw. I still think the first invasion was the best moment of Raw last year and its interesting to look back on what all has happened to the group it their first year. The leadership changed, and I wonder how many people remember that John Cena was fighting current Nexus leader, CM Punk last June 7th when Nexus first attacked. Also of the original eight people to take part in that invasion, David Otunga is the only one who is still an active member. Because next week is a three-hour event, and Nexus first appeared on a three-hour event, I feel like something big might happen next week. Maybe I’m expecting too much from WWE but it feels like it’s about time to start the feuds for SummerSlam, the way the Rumble starts the Road to WrestleMania.
