Dana White: All Non-Title Main Event Fights Now 5 Rounds

News

After getting approved by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in the summer of 2009, White announced that non-title main event fights will now be five round affairs.

Dana White confirmed the news through ESPN. White further explained, “From this day forward, as we speak right here, right now, every fight that is a main event that is not a title fight will be five rounds,”.

The new structure will not affect previously agreed upon three round main-events including Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis. On whether or not he thought the bout between Evans and Davis should be five rounds, White replied, “It should be (five rounds), but what I don’t want to do to guys is, if we’ve already signed the bout agreement, you’re mentally training for a three-round fight. For us to come back and say, it’s a five-round fight, you can’t do that to a guy.”
