The Rager – Capital Feet-Dragging (WWE, R-Truth)

Columns, Top Story

Its about that time yet again for another edition of The Rager. As always I am your very own Gondolier (hat, scarf, stripped shirt and long stick included) to guide you through this long, winding stream of rage-flavored jello. Lets get to it:

Wait…where do we go?
This might end up being one of my shorter Ragers due to the fact that there’s not really a whole lot to talk about. Now I know the professional thing to do here would be to make this a special Rager where I just pick one subject (like I did with Heels and again with R-Truth) and just give my expanded opinion on it. However, I am fat and lazy and I’m sticking with it. Won’t you join me?

Putting the ‘Pun’ in Capital Punishment
So we’re less than a week away from WWE’s new pay per view Capital Punishment and its got about as much anticipation as…well…Fatal 4-Way. I really don’t want to turn into yet another cynical wrestling fan that just moans about everything WEE is doing wrong and honestly, most of the time I just sit and enjoy the shows. However, I find this an interesting transition from having a pay pew view that’s centered around particular type of match and now having a pay per view take its place that has been centered around its promos. Who knows how it will work out and I’m not saying Fatal 4-Way was a huge success because that would be the biggest lie. So who knows, maybe Capital Punishment will be the greatest thing ever or maybe it’ll be a huge flop and will be replaced by a new pay per view gimmick next year or the year after. All I know is that none of the storylines leading up to it aren’t anything to shake stick at and the matches seem thrown together at the last minute. I know we’re still in the Wrestlemania hangover but I’m so ready for the Summerslam shot-in-the-arm.

Speaking of Capital Punishment…
Two weeks ago, I made a few comments that were essentially my thoughts of CP as well as a few suggestions. One of which was to try to get my then-favorite politician to get involved. That politician, as you all may remember, was Representative Anthony Wiener. I wrote all that up, singing his praises about how awesome he was and literally the next night, I heard about his twitter fiasco and the fall-out that was to come every day since. I still stand by that suggestion, seeing as how the WEE is all about some attention whore-ing, although I highly doubt the gentleman from New York would dare book that so soon as well as still being under fire. But in the end, I felt like a complete idiot for two reasons:
1) making that suggestion while having no idea what was going on.
2) actually believing in a politician anymore.
So with that being said I’d like the issue a statement.

Statement Issuing
I would like to thank everyone for coming out today for this statement so I won’t waste anybody’s time.
Ahem
I, Chris, proclaim that it was foolish of me to make such a suggestion and will work harder to make better suggestions and take more care in my speculatory scenarios. That is all.

Moving Along
You can tell its been a slow week when I dedicate such a large portion of the article on random nonsense like that. It just feels like the post-Wrestlemania lull is so much more exaggerated than in previous years. It seems like everyone is just going through the motions right now and putting no real enthusiasm into it. The only real stand-out right now is R-Truth and yes I still can’t believe I’m making such a statement. It is the case, though, because it feels like he’s the only one doing something thats different from everybody else. Now, of course he has his campy moments that I kinda roll my eyes at (the confederate soldier schtick and Cena having to sell getting hit by a plastic bottle) but by-and-large he’s kinda one of the few reasons to anticipate Raw right now. When I step back and think, this past 3-hour Raw wasn’t all that bad and there was a lot more actual wrestling than I would’ve expected but it still felt like something big was missing. To be honest, I’ve been finding WWE Superstars on Thursday nights to be the most entertaining show right now. You get quality matches as well as Tyson Kidd’s manager shuffle. I’m trying to be optimistic about Raw and Smackdown but I’m waiting for something to wow me and get me excited again (a la original Nexus attack) but for the time being, its just putting me to sleep.

Well thats pretty much it, I told you it would be short simply because WEE just isn’t giving me anything to work with right now. If you think I’m wrong or if you want to rage about anything else, feel free to comment below.

Have a great week and be sure to check out more articles (and far more superior than this rag) coming out this week right here at Pulse Wrestling.
