John Byrne Confirms The End Of NEXT MEN As Planned

News

Recently, comics luminary John Byrne announced on his forum the end of John Byrne’s Next Men.

Just a few minutes ago put the finishing touches on the last issue of JOHN BYRNE’S NEXT MEN.

This was the final image I worked on: [See right]

….one of the truly remarkable things about “finishing” the series is that it has ended EXACTLY where and how I planned! I have spent the last week or so drawing and writing scenes that have been in my head for so long, it felt very much like I surely MUST have already drawn and written them years ago!

As I mentioned, the only “surprise” that came out of this “rebirth” of NEXT MEN was the death of Danny — and that happened mostly because I realized, as I slid back into the pilot seat for the new series, that in all the elements that had been floating around in my head all these years, he had absolutely nothing to do! He was not part of the conclusion — unlike Jazz, Nathan, Bethan, Jack and Tony — and he was not part of the “sequel” in ANY of its forms. He simply was not there!!

More on the sequel to come.
