Jamie Foxx New Frontrunner For Django Unchained

Casting News, News

While the previous frontrunner to star in Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming Django Unchained may have been Will Smith, it now looks like the role may in fact be hedging closer to the Jame Foxx camp.

Deadline is reporting that Foxx is the choice to play freed slave Django in Tarantino’s southern-fried ode to the spaghetti western. To be distributed domestically by The Weinstein Company, if and when the deal is inked Foxx will join fellow Oscar winner Chrisoph Waltz and multi-time Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio (maybe this year will be his year with Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar).

While some of us may have pushing for actors like Anthony Mackie or Idris Elba, Foxx is a good choice. The comedian-cum-actor has kept a relatively small profile these past few years, despite co-starring in the Oscar-bait release The Soloist. He recently lent his voice to Fox’s animated hit Rio and will next be seen in the comedy Horrible Bosses, where he plays a murder consultant named “Motherfucker Jones.”
