Huge WWE DVD Project Apparently Involves Bret Hart And Shawn Michaels

Disc Announcements, News

Well, when Jim Ross blogged about a huge WWE DVD project he was working on, I speculated that it was going to be a massive retrospective of the history of World Wrestling Entertainment. Later we reported on another posting about a future project, this time courtesy of Shawn Michaels and Twitter.

But it now looks like we have a general idea of what that huge project Jim Ross was talking about as well as what Shawn Michaels meant when he tweeted the other day (because they’re both connected).

More tweets by Jim Ross, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart pretty much give us a clear indication that the DVD project is none other than a Rivalry Retrospective featuring Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

After recording interviews in Connecticut all three took to Twitter.

Since its out. Bret Hart & I did do interviews 2day w/ JR. It was awesome to say the least. I REALLY think u all will like it!!

(Reply to fan). Its not a Montreal Screwjob DVD. Since we’re in it can we decide what it is?

(Reply to fan). Discussed everything! There was much, much more to our relationship than just that [Montreal Screwjob].

Bret Hart

Early flight tomorrow. DVD shoot went really well. Very cathartic [cleansing] & I think everyone will enjoy it when it’s released.

Jim Ross

Spent 5 hrs 2day interviewing HBK & the Hitman 4 Oct DVD. No holds barred talk. Special day 4 me.”

Personally, I think this type of release has a lot of potential – if WWE fans buy into the concept. Basically we get two Hall of Famers just talking honestly (presumably) about the matches they had against one another. Unlike today’s WWE, where main events are duplicated and replayed for months at a time, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels, like The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, only met a few times on PPV. But the history between HBK and Hart extends farther than just their encounters over the world title at Survivor Series 1992, WrestleMania XII and Survivor Series 1997. Whether it was in tag team competition when The Rockers feuded with The Hart Foundation, or vying for the Intercontinental Championship in various encounters (including a Ladder Match), surely they have tons of war stories about their encounters. And with Jim Ross playing moderator, I’m sure he, with his wrestling knowledge, may even bring up topics that HBK and Hart haven’t thought about in years.

This is the second rumored/discussed Rivalry Retrospective to be in development. The first is a look at the feud between “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock. While early reports from WWEDVDNews indicated it was on the release schedule f2011, it looks like HBK/Hart will be its replacement.

So do you think the Rivalry concept DVD release will work, or will it fail like the trio of Legends of Wrestling releases?
