Steven Spielberg’s War Horse Trailer Looks Epic, Reigns You In

You could argue that Steven Spielberg has been on the decline as a director. Over the last six years he’s only directed two features, War of the Worlds and an unnecessary Indiana Jones sequel, neither of which would be mentioned in the same breath as his earlier works. But the man who made us want to believe that dinosaurs could exist in present day (Jurassic Park) or that we are not alone in the universe (E.T., Close Encounters of the Third Kind) has got his work cut out for him for the rest of the year.

He’ll be shooting his long-gestating dream project, Lincoln, with an all-star cast, and he has two features coming out this December just a few days a part. The first is The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (watch the teaser). The second is War Horse. Both are likely to be up for multiple Oscars, but with the arrival of the trailer for War Horse you may want to reserve a space in the Best Picture race.

Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man named Albert (Jeremy Irvine), who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure.

War Horse is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo and the West End production. Among the cast you have Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

War Horse will kick up some dirt when it arrives in theaters on December 28th.
