Following the several clues already left by DC Comics that points to Flashpoint’s super-powered military man Neil Sinclair being Wildstorm’s Apollo, and eventual lead of the DC Comics Relaunch’s Stormwatch #1, comes more clues from Flashpoint: Project Superman #1.
In the first issue, while Neil Sinclair becomes super-powered, he is called Subject Zero not Apollo (yet?). However, like Apollo, Neil is/was a black ops soldier, volunteered to be powered up, and was implanted with powers by the military. Like Apollo (and Superman), Neil’s cells attract, store and convert energy, but his powers can evolve too.
However, its not not clear on whether his powers are solar based and he has an extra power of x-ray vision. That said, the character has some kind of invisible aura, despite not having the typical visible solar halo.
In Wildstorm continuity, I understand Apollo didn’t remember his past, or his real name, so this is all viable addition of more depth to Apollo’s origin. Recognizing that this is Flashpoint Earth, some things can still change prior to the DC Comics Relaunch.
Based the comments of a poster named Slvn on the official DC forums on what “sinclair” means, I did a search on what the names Neil and Sinclair mean. Here’s what I found:
The meaning of the name Sinclair is ‘”Saint Clair” meaning holy light.

The meaning of the name Neil is… possibly champion or cloud.

So, Neil Sinclair essentially means Champion of Light. Although if we go with “Holy” Light that would be a nod to Apollo’s old Solar halo.
