James Hatton, Nexus and Pulse alumni here. You might remember me from such columns as ‘Marvel News & Views’ and the oft replicated, never duplicated, ‘Monday Night Rabble’ and the still running ‘RabbleCast’. I also occasionally do webcomics.
Anyway, none of this is why I’m writing you today. I’m on a mission to bring the world a different sort of convention experience. Somewhere between a comic con and a fan con, Evil-Con is a convention for supervillainry. The hope is to have villains from all walks of life meet up in the most evil state in the union, New Jersey, for a weekend of mischief and debauchery in August of 2012.
BUT HATTON, WHERE DO I COME IN?
I’m glad you asked. Running a convention is a harrowing experience, and trying to get one off the ground even moreso. My partners and I are currently working on pushing to make sure we have a community that wants this convention as much as we do. We have certain requirements that have to be met to guarantee that this show is a success. Most of that gets into the brutal and sad business aspect of it, so I’ll keep all the sordid details to myself.
GOT IT HATTON, I HATE NUMBERS! THEY’RE SCARY!
They sure are.
SO WHAT CAN I DO! I AM BOTH EAGER AND EXCITED
I’m glad to hear that friend citizen. That means that what you should do is head to Evil-Con.com and read our missive. Like it on Facebook. Join the Fan Page. Mention it on Twitter. Anything will help us find our audience!
OK – IF THIS HAPPENS, WHAT WILL WE DO AT THIS CONVENTION
We are already in talks with artists, creators, musicians, panelists and more. Over the next weeks we are going to start a Kickstarter program as well as some fun advertising that will hopefully really give you a sense of what we are trying to do here. From the ‘Saturday Morning Cartoon’ room to the ‘Backstabbers Ball’ – we want everything to lean towards the diabolic ne’er-do-wells that make heroes lives so hard.
So in closing – thank you for taking your time to read this. Thank you for your finger clicks to the sites I’ve mentioned, and thanks to Inside Pulse & Comic Nexus for giving me a soapbox to babble on.
Hopefully, we’ll see you at Evil-Con
James Hatton
