Jamie Foxx Joins Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained

Casting News, News, Press Releases

A short while ago we reported on Jamie Foxx being the frontrunner for the title role in Django Unchained. Now Yahoo, as well as others, are confirming it. He joins Leonardo DiCaprio, who’ll play the film’s villain.

“I think, just to be able to work with Quentin Tarantino and Samuel Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and to be able to tell a story that needs to be told,” Foxx told CNN, explaining why he took the role. “If you’re a fan of, I mean, you know — it’s just amazing. It should be [an] amazing [thing].”

Foxx wasn’t the first choice, though. Tarantino originally offered the lead role to Will Smith, who turned it down. He then met with Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Chris Tucker before casting Foxx, according to Variety.

What does it mean? I got a leaked copy of the script nearly two months ago and Foxx would be a great fit for the part. With Will Smith having passed on it, and Christoph Waltz being written in for the secondary lead, this could be another iconic role for the actor after the title role in Ray earned him an Oscar and a turn in Collateral earned him another nomination in the same year.

What do you think? Is Foxx the right man for the role? Or is someone else more appropriate? Let us know below.
