It appears that the MMA version of a “feel good” story has finally paid off for Rad Martinez. After the moving piece on ESPN this past weekend called “The Promise,” Martinez opened a great number of high profile deals for himself. Now, due to that publicity, he’s found a fighting home with Bellator Fighting Championships.
Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney snatched up Martinez but said that he had “been on Bellator’s radar before the Outside the Lines profile,” but there is no question that a profile of that magnitude played a great deal in his getting the contract.
With the new deal in place, Martinez should be able to garner the sponsorships necessary to allow Martinez to train full time and also get the best quality care for his father.
“Then he really has to focus on getting in the gym and being the best mixed martial artist he can be. There’s no question in my mind he’ll do that,” Rebney said.
Barring any setbacks, Rad Martinez should be making his Bellator debut this fall.
