Arnold Making His Last Stand: Western To Test Schwarzenegger’s Post-Scandal Popularity

Casting News, News

After months of personal scandal following his departure from the State of California’s highest office, and his subsequent jump back into life as a movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger has finally picked his big comeback project: Last Stand.

Deadline is reporting that Schwarzenegger has chosen Jee-woon Kim to direct his comeback vehicle.

It had been one of two projects he’d been circling, the other being The Tomb. The film revolves around “A drug cartel leader busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexico border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff” with Arnold in the role of the Sherriff.

Per Deadline, Arnold’s deal with Lionsgate is not nearly as rich as the one CAA made for him in QED International’s Cry Macho, which was a $12.5M salary plus 25% first dollar gross back end.

What does this mean? Arnold is feeling the first pinch of his post love-child & divorce shenanigans, as he’s making less on this film he would’ve with Cry Macho, but this is also a smaller budgeted film ($30 million) so it’s not all that shocking that Arnold would take less on it. This is perfectly set up for him to come in and have a modest hit (think $1-150 million) and look like a rock sar when the accounting comes in as opposed to cashing a massive check for a massive film and have those sorts of expectations.

What do you think? Do you think this is the proper comeback vehicle for Arnold? Or is there something else you’d have preferred? Let us know.
