Sometimes it’s hard to be excited for new WWE DVD compilations. It could be because there are far too many sets released each year. Another culprit is the lack of effort put into selecting matches (common complaints are too many repeats and far too many PPV matches).
This year alone we’ve had Raw: The Best of 2010, SmackDown – The Best of 2009-2010, WWE’s Biggest Knuckleheads, The Big Show: A Giant’s World, The True Story of WrestleMania, D-X: One Last Stand, The Very Best of WCW Nitro, and most recently The Greatest Cage Matches of All Time, and Rey Mysterio – Life of a Masked Man.
And still to come this year we have The Greatest Superstars of the 21st Century,
OMG! The 50 Most Shocking, Surprising, Amazing Moments in WWE History, plus Randy Orton’s Evolution of a Predator and a retrospective documentary/compilation release for “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.
But even with all of these titles coming out this year from World Wrestling Entertainment, there is one that is likely to change up the format. That release is WWE’s Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart (working title).
Last month, Jim Ross had hinted about this project calling it one that had been “years in the making and could be ground breaking.” Then there was the news that it apparently involved both Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels as well.
Now, thanks to our friends at WWE DVD News, we have some new information regarding the release.
WWE’s Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart will be released on October 25, 2011 on both DVD and Blu-ray formats. The DVD will be a three-disc set while the Blu-ray will have two discs.
And here is the official synopsis released by World Wrestling Entertainment:
“For more than a decade, Bret “Hit Man†Hart and Shawn Michaels engaged in perhaps the most storied rivalry in the history of sports entertainment, from their teams (the Hart Foundation and the Rockers), through battles for the Intercontinental Championship and the richest prize in the business, the WWE Championship.
Their enmity spilled out of the ring, and led to the most infamous incident in the history of professional wrestling, The Montreal Screwjob. More than a decade later, the two men buried the hatchet as both are now WWE Hall of Famers.
Now, for the first time ever, the two sit down together and rehash their intertwined destinies in Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart. These new, never-before-aired, interviews will shed new light and insight on controversies fans have speculated about for years.â€
