The O’Really Report – Who’s Getting the Money?, Money In The Bank Analysis

Columns, Top Story

Welcome to your Weekly Wednesday Wrestling Stop for all things WWE and partially some Impact.  This week I’m focusing on one of the biggest PPVs of the year… Money in the Bank!  I believe it was CB who said that this event could become the ‘Royal Rumble of the Summer!’ and he is absolutely correct!  But before I get into that neck deep, let’s get some shameful self-promotion out of the way…

Oh and I am now your RAW Live Coverage guy so don’t forget to check that out here.

The ‘Royal Rumble of the Summer’ may be a tad of a stretch, but the Money in the Bank Ladder Match has almost become that unpredictable.  Some of the most unpredictable moments in the last 6 years or so have come from that match.  No one will forget when Edge cashed in his briefcase directly following the Elimination Chamber at New Year’s Revolution on a bloodied John Cena to win his first WWE Championship.  Nor will anyone forget when Jack Swagger shocked the world by winning his own briefcase and then furthering the shock by actually winning the World Heavyweight Championship the following Friday on SmackDown!  So many memories have come from the Money in the Bank match and this year’s event seems to have a bigger angle overshadowing it.

The fate of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships are on the line in two MITB Ladder matches and all that’s been the talk of the town in the past few weeks has been CM Punk and John Cena.  The worked shoot from two weeks ago was flat out awesome and really shook everyone.  For the next few days, that’s all you read or saw on the Internet.  Was he supposed to do that?  Why wasn’t he cut off sooner if it was real?  Did I just mark out to Punk’s promo?  Did Punk just speak the exact thoughts of the smarks?  Everyone seemed excited about wrestling again!  And then what happened?  The next week’s spoilers come out and now there is a ‘John Cena must win or be fired’ stipulation added.  Now… there is still talk of what ‘might’ happen, but there is no way that Punk is walking out with the WWE Championship.  Whether John Cena actually beats Punk or one of the MITB winners cashes in is another story, but there is just no way.  A storyline of Cena chasing Punk everywhere is cool, but really when has WWE done right by their big storylines past a few weeks?  I adored the Nexus storyline last year, but after a while I was tired of seeing their ‘pack mentality’ as Cole called it.  It was the same old song and dance.  Now we get to see Cena put Punk to rest at the PPV.  Like Glazer said in his column, do we really expect WWE to fire half of their main event next year?  No.

Therefore…

WWE Championship:  John Cena (c) vs CM Punk

Prediction:  As cool as the Money in the Bank winner cashing in is… I just can’t see it happening.  It honestly just looks to be a case of Cena putting Punk away clean and maybe becoming a bit edgier in the next few weeks.

Winner:  John Cena

World Heavyweight Championship:  Randy Orton (c) vs Christian

Prediction:  This feud has gone a lot longer than I originally expected, but I can’t see Christian pulling out the win under the circumstances of this.  Now… if Christian won and then Sheamus cashed in… I could see that happening.  First they need a new face on SmackDown as Sin Cara is not a sturdy #2 and neither is Daniel Bryan with his lack of mic skills.  Sheamus could fit into that mold nicely since there are an abundance of heels on SmackDown for him to fight with.  Although Sheamus could cash in tonight… once again, I just don’t see it happening.

Winner:  Randy Orton

Mark Henry vs The Big Show

Prediction:  It’s embarrassing how interested I am in Mark Henry.  He used to be yet another bland face, but wham! A trade to SmackDown and now he’s a monster again and not a bad monster at that.  Darn you Henry for becoming relevant again!  Now I have to watch this match to see just what is going to happen… and before you ask, of course this won’t be a Five-Star performance.  Big Show could win… but that would make this whole push of Mark Henry for naught so I’m picking the World’s Strongest Man! (as is everyone else.)

Winner:  Mark Henry

Divas Championship:  Kelly Kelly vs Brie Bella

Prediction:  I wish Kharma the best in her pregnancy, but I just hope she decides to come back.  I know it’s ill to wish the mother of an infant to come back to her job, but c’mon!  Kelly Kelly vs Brie Bella is a disgrace!  Where’s the Alundra Blayzes?  The Trish Stratus’?  The Litas?  The Victorias?  I just want some women in the ring who can wrestle.  I’m tired of seeing these models learn about 5 moves and step in between the ropes and act like they deserve to be at the top.  So tired.  As for the match… Kelly Kelly should win until someone actually gets a push to beat her.

Winner:  Kelly Kelly

Now on to the two matches that will have some large effects on the WWE for the rest of the year…. The Money in the Bank Ladder Matches!

SmackDown Money In The Bank Ladder Match:  Kane vs Wade Barrett vs Justin Gabriel vs Heath Slater vs Sin Cara vs Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus vs Cody Rhodes

Prediction:  My preference to win this match is Wade Barrett; however, it appears that the obvious choice to win this match is Sheamus.  Sheamus is being pushed very heavily right now and with a MITB briefcase, he would have a reason to become involved in the Orton/Christian feud going on right now.  However Gabriel, Slater, Kane, Sin Cara, and Daniel Bryan have almost zero chances of winning right now.  The first two would be a mistake with how young and fresh they are to singles competition.  Kane did it last year and doesn’t need it.  Sin Cara and Daniel Bryan both could win, but really a face with the briefcase doesn’t work very well.  Therefore that leaves Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes, and Sheamus.  I already discussed why Sheamus would need it.  Wade Barrett needs one more push to escalate him into the main event picture and Wade having something to talk about besides The Nexus or The Corre is what he needs.  If he held that briefcase until late in the year, it would not only give him relevance that he needs after the Corre fiasco, but it would give him that title shot he squandered at Survivor Series.  Cody Rhodes would be an interesting choice if he could somehow keep that briefcase for a LONG time.  I mean he needs to hold it almost as long as Edge did the first go round or longer.  Imagine if he held it until after next year’s WrestleMania?  The promos would be great and he would have yet another weapon to attack his opponents with besides his mask.  Despite my preferences of Wade and Cody, the obvious winner would have to be Sheamus.

Winner:  Sheamus

Raw Money In The Bank Ladder Match:  Alex Riley, R-Truth, The Miz, Jack Swagger, Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston

Predictions:  My preferences here… are who I think will win:  R-Truth and Alberto Del Rio.  Bourne and Kofi have boring face syndrome and until they do something to liven their characters, they won’t be winning MITB any year.  Riley is new, but as soon as his feud with Miz is done do you really think he will be nearly as hot as he was during it?  Hello Marty Janetty!  Jack Swagger should never touch the World Championship again.  That was a mistake and I think everyone including the WWE knows that now.  Rey could win this match, but what does it do for him?  Give him that completer’s card for winning the World Title, the Royal Rumble, at WrestleMania, and the MITB Ladder match?  Rey doesn’t need it to challenge for the championship.  The briefcase is always better geared for a cheap trickster like R-Truth or Del Rio.  It’s a tie between these two as both are really hot right now, but I think Del Rio will win.  Truth, no matter how crazy and absurd he may get, is one of those guys who will never get the title.  I just don’t see that happening.  Del Rio on the other hand, I say should have already gotten the title, but, because of the Edge ordeal, did not.

Winner:  Alberto Del Rio

Well that’s all I have for this week guys! Hope you enjoyed and I will be back next week with yet another Combo Column.  But first…

Question of the week:  If a Money In the Bank winner cashes in and no one remembers it, did it happen?

And quite frankly my dear… that’s a wrap!
