BOX OFFICE: Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Gunning For Top Weekend Opening Of All Time

The end is near. Well, for Harry Potter at least. The final installment to the beloved fantasy series opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday in 3,800 theaters across the U.S. and Canada.

Theaters are already reporting $25 million in advance ticket sales. And, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the reported figure was from only 1,400 of the 3,800 venues showing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

Currently, the finale has earned $43.6 million overseas.

The film will undoubtedly surpass the $30 million earned by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse to make it the highest grossing midnight release of all time.

Taking those midnight numbers into account, Deathly Hallows will be gunning to top The Dark Knight unseat it and be the new victor in having the top weekend opening of all time at the domestic box office. For comparison, the Batman Begins grossed $158.4 million back in 2008 for its opening weekend.
