DC Comics Relaunch: Green Lantern Solicits for October

Insider, News

I am so glad that there are only four of these books. Doing the Bat titles, Dark, and Edge titles took forever.

GREEN LANTERN #2

Variant cover by DAVID FINCH
1:200 B&W variant cover by DOUG MAHNKE

Renegade Green Lantern Sinestro sets a course for Korugar with one purpose: To free his homeworld from the scourge of… The Sinestro Corps?!

Skitch commentary: I was very surprised by the twist that Sinestro is the star of the core Green Lantern title.  And fighting his own Corps?  This should be some exciting stories.

The question is, obviously, what happened to Hal?  Shamed into retirement by the fact his movie didn’t do so well (and that is just a joke people, I actually really enjoyed the Green Lantern movie).

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #2

Written by PETER J. TOMASI
Art by FERNANDO PASARIN and SCOTT HANNA
Cover by ALEX GARNER
On sale OCTOBER 19 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

Guy Gardner and John Stewart lead a squadron of Green Lanterns to fight a mysterious force that is marching across the space sectors and devouring not only their natural resources but their entire populations. Worst of all, those responsible have a vendetta against the Green Lantern Corps!

Skitch commentary: Man, the universe has no respect for the police.  It seems like every issue of Green Lantern Corps is about someone who has a vendetta against the Corps.  Don’t they ever get to save a kitten from a nebula or give a traffic ticket to Lobo?  Being a GLC really sounds like a sucky job.

Oh, this issue sounds great, ignore my distracted ramblings.

GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #2

Written by TONY BEDARD
Art by TYLER KIRKHAM, HARVEY TALIBAO and BATT
Cover by TYLER KIRKHAM and BATT
On sale OCTOBER 26 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

By their rings betrayed! Who – or what – has the might to tear power rings from each of the seven Lantern Corps, murdering their former bearers in the process? And why have the rings all chosen Kyle Rayner as their new master? As members of each Corps target Kyle for death, we learn more about the shocking fate of Ganthet!

Skitch commentary: I suspect this solicitation is a little hyperbolic, as there aren’t exactly a lot of Orange Lanterns who could be dying to lose their rings.  That said, this sounds like a cool story idea.  Poor Kyle.  I am still very curious what brings this group of misfits together.  Seems like a bit of a stretch, which makes for some fun story telling potential.

RED LANTERNS #2

Written by PETER MILLIGAN
Art and cover by ED BENES and ROB HUNTER
On sale OCTOBER 5 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T+

On a war-torn world where invading forces fight insurgent forces, the innocent always suffer the most. When a child screams with red-hot rage at the madness around her, she is answered by her weapon of retribution: Atrocitus.

Skitch commentary: That is once wicked looking cover.  I had initially said I was going to pass on this series, as I couldn’t see a lot of room for story telling with red lanterns, but this solicit sounds really interesting.  I still don’t know how much legs this series has, but I am getting more and more inclined to check out the early issues.
