Nothing can stop Harry Potter. Not evil wizards. Not shiny vampires. Not even Transformers. Nikki Finke and Deadline.com are reporting that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 has obliterated the single-day record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon in November 2009. That film took in a little more than $72 million. Harry Potter breezed by that number to finish Friday with more than $95 million.
Now it has its sights set on obtaining the biggest 3-day weekend of all time. To do that, it will have to eclipse The Dark Knight‘s $158.4 million, which it made the weekend of July 18-20, 2008.
With a $95 million opening day The Deathly Hallows Part 2 would only need to average $35 million for Saturday and Sunday for it to become the new record for a 3-day weekend. Though, the figures will probably be closer to $50 million and $35 million for the weekend overall.
In addition to selling out theaters worldwide, the film also became the new #1 online ticket pre-seller of all time at Movietickets.com.
