UFC 136 may prove to be the sleeper show of what increasingly looks to be a solid fourth quarter for the UFC. With the controversial return of Chael Sonnen against Brian Stann already confirmed, the UFC surprised many by announcing two championship fights to serve as the headline attractions in Houston, Texas on October 8th. The main event shall be the third match between world lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and the unbeaten Gray Maynard in a rematch of their drawn contest from UFC 125. In the co-main world featherweight champion faces his toughest test yet when he defends his newly won UFC belt against Octagon veteran Kenny Florian.
While Edgar-Maynard II did disappointing numbers on pay per view (no doubt in part due to being held on New Year’s Day) and the lighter weight classes have yet to be fully established within the UFC, one has to think that such a strong triple main event should see the show do very well on pay per view.
