BOX OFFICE: Harry Potter Has $293.8 Million Weekend

News

Warner Bros. executives were so ecstatic that some were exclaiming “Unbelievable!” when talking to members of the press. And there’s some unsubstantiated reports of WB officials dancing uncontrollably unable to stifle their delight (victims of the Tarantallegra spell, perhaps?).

On Friday, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soared to $92.1 million in the United States and Canada (this includes the record-setting $43.5 million from midnight showings). The film was a few million short of breaking the Saturday record for a film release. The Deathly Hallows Part 2 raked in an impressive $44.2 million, but Spider-Man 3 still holds the record with $51.3 million.

And overseas the film has opened in 59 territories and accumulated a total of $157.5 million for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. All together, the worldwide total is at $293.8 million and rising.

Inside Pulse Movies will have a complete breakdown of this weekend’s box office later today.
