The last man to hold the WEC Lightweight championship, Anthony Pettis, may just be the unluckiest man in MMA. After the draw between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard on New Year’s Day, he was no longer “next in line” to unify to the two lightweight straps. Instead, he took a bout with high octane fighter Clay Guida and lost via unanimous decision.
Let’s hope his second trip into the Octagon is better for Pettis as he’ll square off with Jeremy Stephens at UFC 136 on October 8th in Houston.
Stephens comes into the fight on a two-fight win streak with wins in four of his last five bouts.
UFC 136 features two championship bouts as UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar looks to beat Gray Maynard in the third match in their epic series, while Kenny Florian gets his third career title shot (and first at featherweight) against champion Jose Aldo.
