Superman: Man of Steel Release Moved To Summer 2013

News

In the midst of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, studios are hyping and hawking their upcoming slate of TV, Film and Interactive Media. In terms of superhero-related films for 2012 this meant films like The Avengers and Man of…not so fast.

In an official announcement, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that the new Superman film will be released in theaters on June 14, 2013 instead of the December 2012 time frame originally believed.

Currently, it is the only film scheduled for that date. Though it is wedged between two animated films. A week prior to its release is Turbo from DreamWorks Animation. A week following the release of Man of Steel is Pixar’s Monsters Inc. sequel Monsters University.

What it means? This is a pretty good move for Warner Bros. in the long run. December 2012 was becoming a crowded month for new releases with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Hunter Killer, Life of Pi, Lone Ranger, and Django Unchained. With a summer 2013 date already set, essentially Warner Bros. is letting other studios now that it has staked out the second Friday in June to have Superman be one of its big tentpole releases that summer.
