Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson for Bantamweight Title at UFC on Versus 6

News

This October a UFC Title will be defended on the Versus Network for the first time when Dominick Cruz defends his UFC Bantamweight Championship for the second time as he squares off against Demtrious Johnson at UFC on Versus 6. The fight is expected to headline the card which will be held at the Verizon Center in Washington DC on October 1st.

Cruz is coming off a spectacular performance earlier this month at UFC 132 as he defended his title against fan favorite Urijah Faber and won Fight of the Night honors. It was the first time that a Bantamweight fight had been the main event of a UFC PPV. However the feeling still lingers amongst some that the weight classes that were brought over from the WEC (Featherweight and Bantamweight) are still not getting the respect they deserve and certainly this decision to give away a title fight for free may only fuel the fire. It was also announced last week that at UFC 136 Jose Aldo and his Featherweight title will act as a co-main to the Lightweight title tilt between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard.

Demetrious Johnson has always been discussed as a prime candidate to become the UFC’s first ever Flyweight champion whenever that division is introduced to the Octagon but for now he will have to focus his energy on winning the Bantamweight Title. He is in the midst of a four fight win streak that includes wins over high profile fighters such as Kid Yamamoto and Miguel Torres. There are some who viewed his decision victory over Torres as dubious but seemingly Dana White is not among them having rewarded Mighty Mouse with a title fight.
