Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs To Get 40th Anniversary Blu-ray Release

Disc Announcements, News, Rumors

The news is still pretty early and vague, but it is being reported that Sam Peckinpah’s violent riddled classic, Straw Dogs, will be getting a 40th Anniversary Blu-ray release from the Canadian branch of MGM.

Straw Dogs tells the disturbing story of David, a timid American Mathematician (Dustin Hoffman) who moves to the England countryside with his wife (Susan George). Locals instantly resent his educated ways and begin to lash out in increasingly violent and disturbing ways pushing David to his absolute limits.

Dogs was a highly controversial film at the time of its release in 1971 due its depiction of violence. The film was edited down for release in the US and in 1984 was banned in the UK.

As of yet, technical specs and region coding status for this release are unknown, but the preliminary street date is September 6th. As more information becomes available we’ll keep you posted.

A remake of the film directed by Rod Lurie and starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and James Woods is due out Sept. 16. You can watch the trailer for that film by clicking here.
