Ryan Gosling is just a few days away from lighting Hollywood on fire with Crazy, Stupid, Love. Playing a charming, smooth-talking ladies’ man, it is that type of confidence that all guys wish they had. With an Oscar nomination for Half Nelson and just missing out for Blue Valentine, it appears that he’ll have a shot at another nom this year, most likely coming from George Clooney’s The Ides of March.
The film will open the Venice Film Festival, play at TIFF and is more than likely to compete for a number of Oscars, especially the acting categories. Arriving on the heels of the poster and production stills comes the first trailer of a film that follows the exploits of presidential campaign spinmeister Stephen Myers (Gosling) and the dirty pool he plays to get his candidate (Clooney) the nomination against a rival senator. Paul Giamatti plays the campaign manager of the rival senator played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Marisa Tomei is a reporter for The New York Times and Evan Rachel Wood stars as an intern for Myers’ campaign who has her eyes on Stephen.
The Ides of March opens on October 7th.
