Cage and Cusack to stand on The Frozen Ground together?

Casting News, News

It’s been well over a decade since John Cusack and Nicolas Cage worked together to stop the bad guys in Con Air and if the pair’s most recent rumoured collaboration proves anything it’s that time sure can change a person.

Deadline reports that Cusack and Cage are in talks to once again work together in the film The Frozen Ground; however, this time a partnership is completely out of the question. The movie is based on true events involving the most infamous serial killer in Alaskan history, Robert Hansen. Cusack would be the one playing the part of the sadistic predator who was a family man who for over 12 years kidnapped more than 24 women, flew them out into the wilderness and then hunted them down. Cage is lined up to play a dedicated Alaskan State Trooper, who discovers the only one of Hansen’s victims to escape alive wandering through the streets. Together they set out on a mission to finally bring Hansen to justice for the crime’s he’s committed.

The film marks the directing debut of Scott Walker, who also wrote the script. Filming is scheduled to begin this fall in Anchorage, Alaska.

The Pulse: Yes please. Anything with Cusack recently has been fantastic. He’s really begun to hit a stride lately and this one sounds like another chance for him to stretch his acting capabilities to the max. Also, while Cage seems to appear in just about anything these days, when the script works and the character is strong Cage has the ability to make movie magic. In fact, this sounds like just the type of role that he’ll excel at. These two had some great chemistry back in Cage’s can-do-no-wrong action years and they’ve only grown since then. Seeing them together again is more than enough reason to make me want to see the film regardless of what it’s about.

On that note, what the film is about sounds incredibly intriguing. The fact that these events actually happened, and for so long at that, is astonishing. There was a long, solid run of serial killer films in the ‘90s, however, they’ve slowed down in recent years and have been replaced with much more gore-centric horror films. This has the makings to be a shocking thriller and is definitely worth keeping tabs on.

What do you think about this casting news? Do you think Cage and Cusack have the chemistry to pull this off? Anyone else you’d rather see in the parts? Do you think this type of story will be able to find an audience by itself, or will it take critical acclaim (if it garners any) in order to get people into the seats? Sound off below!

Brendan Campbell was here when Inside Pulse Movies began, and he’ll be here when it finishes - in 2012, when a cataclysmic event wipes out the servers, as well as everyone else on the planet other than John Cusack and those close to him. Brendan’s the #1 supporter of Keanu Reeves, a huge fan of popcorn flicks and a firm believer that sheer entertainment can take a film a long way. He currently resides in Canada, where, for reasons stated above, he’s attempting to get closer to John Cusack.
