Blu-ray Review: The Warrior’s Way

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews

Can you mash up genres around a weak story and get cinematic magic? On occasion you can but The Warrior’s Way isn’t one of them.

Yang (Jang Dong-gun), a swordsman as deadly as he is few of words has a dilemma. Unable to kill the child that happens to be the last remaining survivor of his clan’s rival ninja posse, Yang takes the baby and goes off the grid to make a new life. Yang’s clan apparently doesn’t have much to do now, however, since they’ve killed everyone they deem to be a rival. With Yang hiding out in the Old West, they’ve decided to come after him. But they’re not the only ones. A ghost of retired carnies, a corrupt gang of cowboys has also opted to make their presence known as well.

Shenanigans happen, as they always do.

The Warrior’s Way is one of those films that tries to cover a lackluster story by being weird. By mashing up a number of genres and playing it a bit off-kilter, The Warrior’s Way wants us to overlook how pedestrian plot is and how stunningly bad everything else is by throwing in magical ninjas and cowboys together in the Old West against a swordsman. It just accentuates all that misfires in the film, which there is plenty.

The Warrior’s Way is one to avoid.

Presented in a widescreen format with a Dolby digital surround, this is a first rate transfer. The film looks absolute stunning, despite its quality.

A quick Behind the Scenes montage is included as well as some Deleted Scenes that don’t add much back into the film. A Digital Copy of the film is also included, if you’re so inclined.

The Warrior’s Way on Blu-Ray isn’t anything special; if one has the choice between the regular and Blu-Ray, save your money because outside of a/v there’s not much in terms of extras to make the upgrade worth it.
