First Look: Ryan Gosling On The Set Of The Place Beyond The Pines

For a number of actors you can define their body of work by their collaborations. When you think Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, director Martin Scorsese quickly springs to mind. For Johnny Depp it’s Tim Burton (and more recently Gore Verbinski). For Ryan Gosling, he is also torn between two directors. With the film release Drive arriving in September, Gosling is set to reunite with the director, Nicolas Winding Refn, on the projects Only God Forgives and the remake of Logan’s Run. Gosling is also teaming up again with Blue Valentine filmmaker Derek Cianfrance for The Place Beyond The Pines.

The first photos from the set arrive via JustJared, and as you can tell Gosling looks nothing like his Casanova character from Crazy, Stupid, Love. In interviews Cianfrance has simplified the movie, leading on that it is about “motorcycles and guns.” Judging by the three photos below, motorcycles (or dirt bikes) are a given. The guns – not so much. With bleach-blond hair and a few tats, Gosling looks like someone you don’t want to piss off. For the film he plays a motorcycle racer who begins robbing banks and tangles with a local cop, played by Bradley Cooper. Ray Liotta, Eva Mendes and Greta Gerwig round out the central cast.
