Dana White: Fedor Emelianenko Released from Strikeforce

News

Today at the UFC 133 presser, UFC President Dana White announced that former PRIDE Heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has been released from his Strikeforce contract. Fedor is currently in the midst of a three fight losing streak.

In the last two weeks, Strikeforce’s top two name heavyweights (Emelianenko and Strikeforce Heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem) have been released from the organization.

Emelianenko is coming off of a first round TKO loss to Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Dan Henderson this past Saturday at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson”.

M-1 Global rep Evgeni Kogan has this to say:

“Fedor’s contract it with Showtime. He remains a Showtime fighter, on a network which has been amazing to Fedor and the team.”

“Strikeforce is not the only MMA promotion on Showtime,” Kogan said. “So there are a number of options for Fedor which will be looked at. And one of those is to work with the other MMA promotion currently on Showtime.”
