UFC on Versus 5: Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle Live Results and Play by Play

Hey everyone, welcome to Inside Fights’ live coverage of UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle. Tonight, join Scott “Kubryk” Sawitz with live results and play by play for the event, which is coming to you from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is the UFC’s first foray into the state of Wisconsin, so it should be an action-packed event.

Our coverage begins at 5:45PM ET with the first bout of the preliminary fights broadcast on Facebook and will continue through an exciting night of fights.

Edwin Figueroa vs. Jason Reinhardt

Round 1: Both end up stalking, with Figueroa controlling the octagon. Neither is throwing or engaging for the first minute or so. Reinhardt is looking to set up the takedown but Figueroa isn’t engaging. Figueroa attempts a kick that is block, then stalks him into the corner. He tags him and gets him against the cage, Reinhardt grabs a double as Figueroa locks in a guillotine. They are fighting over it and Reinhardt manages to get him to break it. Reinhardt gets back, going for the rear naked choke. Reinhardt is backed into the cage by Figueroa, who spins out of it and ends up in guard. Backs up and connects a couple times, backing up and forcing Reinhardt up. Reinhardt with a sloppy takedown, let up again by Figueroa. He’s controlling the position and Reinhardt winds up in Figueroa’s guard, as Figueroa gets the takedown but Rinehardt falls down. Figueroa starts unloading with strikes as Reinhardt is trying to get him to back off more with legs. Figueroa is standing and throwing, hitting some great shots Round ends after a standup.

In between Reinhardt’s face shows the damage from Figueroa.

Round 2: Figueroa starts the same as before, as Reinhardt is tentative and backing up to lure him in, get the takedown. Figueroa blocks takedown into the mount, unloading some big shots. Reinhardt isn’t doing much as Figueroa is dropping some big left hands on. Figueroa connects with enough and Reinhardt isn’t defending himself intelligently The fight is stopped by TKO.

Winner: Edwin Figueroa wins the fight by TKO at :50 of the second round.


Highlight package airs for Volkmann-Castillo

Jacob Volkmann vs. Danny Castillo

Round 1: Volkmann stalks him back into the cage, looking for the clinch, and a brief standing grappling exchange ends up equal. Castillo lands a solid leg kick after jabs from both end up missing. Castillo misses with a high kick as Volkmann is looking for the takedown. Castillo is throwing hard to keep him from shooting. Volkmann with a powerful double into half guard. Volkmann locks in a Darce choke and is sinking it in deep. Castillo gets Volkmann on his back and winds up breaking the choke. Castillo gets in Volkmann’s guard, Volkmann to control the head.

Volkmann butt scoots his way up, looking to get him back to the ground. Castillo backs off and we’re back on the feet. Some light jabs go nowhere for both. Castillo with a powerful kick to the midsection, turns it into a double. Volkmann sprawls and gets Castilllo on his knees. Shots to the body as Volkmann using an ankle pick to to try and break him down. Strong amateur double leg defense from Volkmann, riding it out with a crotch lift defense. Round ends in that position.

Round 2: Some light circling as Castillo misses with a powerful uppercut, catches Volkmann with a quick elbow before getting a double leg against the cage. Takes Volkmann down but Volkmann goes back to the Darce choke. Loses the choke and Castillo gets Volkmann’s back to the cage. Volkmann tries to muscle him over and can’t, but gets back to his feet. Castillo is back to the double leg, Volkmann sprawled out and grappling exchange leads Castillo with front control on the sprawl. Volkmann spins him over into half guard, almost into side control.

Volkmann loses half guard as Castillo shrimps, but Volkmann is back to the Darce and has it tight. Volkmann loses it as Castillo’s defense is good. Volkmann grabs a deep Darce with 45 seconds left and Castillo isn’t quite as deep as it could be. Castillo is using his knees to keep it from getting deeper. Round ends with Volkmann losing the choke but still in half guard.

Round 3 Castillo comes out with a big straight punch that Volkmann shrugs off. Castillo throws a wild uppercut that misses, but connects on an inside lower leg lick. Volkmann goes for the shot, grappling exchange leaves both on their feet. Volkmann gets his on his feet but Castillo scrambles away. Volkmann on the double and into side control.

Volkmann works the Darce again, Castillo with a knee to the body but Volkmann working it tough. Volkmann throws some shots to lock that Darce in as Castillo lands some knees to the body. Volkmann has Darce tight and looks to be going for the mount, circling towards Castillo. Darce is deep.

Castillo spins his way out and ends back into side control, Volkmann looking to get into the Darce again with a minute left. Quick elbows to try and get it, has it in but can’t lock it up tight. Volkmann looks to be riding this out in dominant position, Castillo spins out with 10 seconds left. Round ends with Volkmann on Castillo’s back. We’re going to a decision.

Cole Miller vs. T.J. O’Brien

Round 1: O’Brien with the leg kick inside, not a lot of damage. Goes outside but Miller checks it. Both circling and exchanging, but not connecting. Miller is winning the positional war as O’Brien is backing up. Miller with a combination that connects, o’Brien throws a high kick and eats some punches for his effort. Miller is using his boxing to win the positional war, connecting and O’Brien goes wild, then connects to the body a handful of times. Miller using his jab to keep him at range. O’Brien straight punches Miller and gets him to the cage briefly, connecting. Miller is going for the counters here. Miller opens up with some punches and a leg kick, the latter connecting. O’Brien connects with a leg kick inside and Miller matches him to the outside. O’Brien gets caught with a big right, then a combination and O’Brien is favoring his right foot. Looked to hurt it during the last kick he threw. Miller uses his boxing some more as O’Brien has stopped throwing with his left. Miller is using his head movement to keep O’Brien at bay. Light exchange with punches ends the round.

Round 2: O’Brien and Miller exchange as they look to find each other’s range. Miller is hitting more but O’Brien connecting with the better shots. Miller catches him with a big left and O’Brien goes down. O’Brien in the turtle and Miller unloading on kicks to both legs. O’Brien gets up and hits a double, but Miller locks in a guillotine, locks in the mount. Arm in and he taps at 2:38 of the Second round

Winner: Cole Miller by submission (Guillotine) at 2:38 of the second round.


Alex Caceres vs. Jimmy Hettes

Round 1: Caceres clips Hettes quickly and gets in some punishment. Hettes goes for the double and throws him down, escapes and Caceres winds up on top. Hettes goes for a leg lock and almost gets it. Caceres is unloading on top as he keeps going for leg locks and eats punches for it. Hettes reverses position and takes him down, winding up in Caceres’ guard. Hettes spins out of a leg lock and Caceres sweeps him back to his feet, hits him with a handful of punches. Goes for the armbar and the another leg lock, not able to lock on either. Caceres still standing over as he has his ankle locked, Hettes takes him back and gets top position. Lands a punch and goes for some more submissions, Caceres goes for an omaplata and countered with a triangle, Hettes wins grappling exchange into an ankle lock. Caceres defending well, Hettes reverses him again and gets on top. Hettes lands a couple strikes to end round as round ends.

Round 2: Caceres gets hip-tossed as Hettes goes for a Darce, Caceres gets out and back to his feet. Hettes goes for hooks but can’t lock it, slams him backward to the mat. Caceres rolls into an arm triangle and Hettes gets back mount. Hettes going for an arm triangle of his own, works his way back up to go for strikes. Caceres escapes to his feet, Hettes goes for the guillotine and gets into half guard. Hettes misses a triangle twice, Caceres backs out winds up with his back into the cage as Hettes going for the takedown again. Hettes hip tosses him again, looking to set up a kimura. Lets it go, looking for a mounted crucifix, Caceres gets up but Hettes throws him down and locks him a rear naked choke. Caceres taps out at 3:40 of the second.

Winner: Jimmy Hettes by submission (Rear naked choke) at 3:40 of the second round


Karlos Vemola vs. Ronny Markes

Round 1: Vemola starts out wild and both look to be going for the ground. Markes pushes him against the cage, trying to throw him. Grappling exchange leads them across the cage and into a wild exchange of punches. They are just throwing wildly until Markes hits a double leg and pushes Markes against the cage. Markes gets back up but Vemola gets slammed back to the ground. Pushes him up against the cage and Vemola holding. Markes hitting him with short elbows and punches in half guard against the cage. Vemola back up and gets slammed again, Markes wall walks back to the cage and Vemola gets into his guard.

Markes gets back up but Vemola pressing him against the cage, getting controlled by the Brazilian. Markes goes for a spinning arm drag, gets to the ground, but locks in a guillotine at the end of the round but doesn’t have enough time to finish.

Round 2: Grappling exchange leads to a wild brawl and then to Markes back on top. Vemola gets back up and taken down again, locking in guard as Markes looks to posture up. Vemola pulling him down and Vemola exchanging. Markes gets back up and in deep with a single, can’t finish back into the cage. Eats a knee.

Vemola pressing him into the cage, throwing knees as he’s looking. Markes takes him down again and gets side control on him. Not doing much with it, though, as he’s trying for an arm triangle it seems. Hits Markes with a couple knees and then starts unloading with punches in side control. Round ends in that position.

Round 3: Vemola comes out swinging wild and gets him against the cage, Markes gets reversed back into the cage. Has wrist control, looking for a takedown. Leaning on the cage, not doing much, and then takes him to the ground. Winds up in Vemola’s guard and begins some ground and pound. Markes gets into half control, looking to move to side control again. Some light punches exchanged but nothing major, Markes lookin for an arm control as he gets side control. Going for the kimura and winds up in north/south before going back into side control. Vemola is just trying to survive the round from the bottom.

Ed Herman vs. Kyle Noke

Round 1: They start out fast with strikes and Noke goes for the takedown, reversed by Herman as Noke pulls butterfly guard, gets back up and ends up taking Herman down. Herman is looking to go for a shoulder lock and Noke defends with some punches. Herman goes for an armbar, switching to a triangle choke. Has it in but doesn’t have it, rolls to an armbar and Noke gets out. Noke with some ground and pound in Herman’s full guard. Herman goes for the triangle again but doesn’t have the arm. Rolls him into an armbar and Noke defends but Herman has it in tight. Noke trying to roll through and winds up back into Noke’s guard. Has half guard and hits him with a couple strike from top. Herman goes for a leg lock as Noke tries to mount him, winds up back on top. Herman locks a knee bar in and Noke taps.

Winner: Ed Herman by submission (knee bar) at 4:15 of the first round.


Joseph Benavidez vs. Eddie Wineland

Round 1: Benavidez throws wild and doesn’t connect, Wineland uses his jab to keep him at distance but not hitting with it. Throws a kick to the midsection caught by Wineland. Wineland is using his size advantage as Benavidez is backing up, having to take a couple steps to get close. Wineland is circling to close the gap, waiting for a moment to throw. Benavidez with a straight that connects but doesn’t do much. Benavidez is throwing low leg kicks that aren’t connecting but keeping Wineland at a distance. He connects with a couple big shots but Benavidez can’t follow it up and Wineland circles away to recover. Wineland is starting to bleed from the nose, potentially broken.

Benavidez is starting to dart in and out and Wineland is bleeding profusely. Benavidez is becoming more aggressive as Wineland is more preoccupied with his nose. They finish the round on their feet, Wineland covered in blood.

Inside Fights score: 10-9 Benavidez

Round 2: Wineland comes out and they exchange, Wineland getting the better of it. Wineland is pushing the pace and letting his hands fly now, not looking to counter as he’s pushing the pace harder. Benavidez is on his heels more often now as this is becoming much more of a brawl. Benavidez claims to have gotten eye poked and Rosenthal doesn’t intervene, with Wineland landing a couple shots and pushes him against the cage. Benavidez circles away and we’re back standing.

Lot of level changing as Wineland is looking to counter punch as Benavidez is rushing in to strike. He’s not looking to commit and he’s not connecting, either. Benavidez lands a couple hard shots but Wineland is still pushing the pace. Benavidez goes for the double but is blocked by Wineland, getting underhooks and angling for position. Benavidez backs out and starts to let his hands go.

Another takedown attempt goes nowhere as they wind up in the clinch, exchanging knees. Wineland gets the takedown after a slip on a throw from Benavidez, who quickly escapes.

Benavidez gets deep in on a single and takes down Wineland at the end of the round but Wineland gets up as soon as his back hits the ground. Round ends with them against the cage.

Round 3: Round begins with the two in the center, exchanging but not connecting. Wineland connects and gets a knockdown on a slip, but Benavidez gets back as Wineland doesn’t go to the ground. Benavidez connects with some punches and hits a flying knee, then a right hook, but Wineland pushes him off the cage and they get back into the middle. Left kick from Benavidez and a couple big shots exchanged, powerful spinning back fist looks pretty but doesn’t connect.

Benavidez connects with another right. Goes for the takedown and Wineland sprawls hard, Benavidez stops during the commit and Wineland face plants but is up quickly. Benavidez is faking shots and throwing as soon as Wineland commits to defending them. Middle kick caught by Wineland and catches Benavidez with a right, but Benavidez backs up. Benavidez goes for the double and Wineland sprawls, commits but can’t get it. Wineland backs up and we’re still standing. They throw but nothing’s connecting for either. Round ends with both throwing wild but neither actually connecting. Time to go the scorecards.

C.B. Dollaway vs. Jared Hamman

Round 1: Both exchange low kicks to start. Hamman controlling the cage and tagging Dollaway, who hits a big combination and gets a double. Dolloway takes him down into side control, scramble to the back. Dolloway has his left leg in but Hamman gets up and their standing, Hamman’s back to the cage. Dollaway takes him down, full mount, switching to an arm triangle. Gets the side, Hamman blocking it. Choke is tight as Dolloway stepping to his right. Hamman is defending it well and Dolloway releases to get the mount. Scramble and Hamman gets the guard. Hamman eats some big right hands and scramble leads to them back on their feet. Dolloway with the double leg against the cage but can’t quite get him down. Finally drags him down, Hamman bucks him off and Dolloway pulls guard. Hamman throws some punches but Dolloway holding onto him tight, Hamman stands up and then lands down in side control, looking to mount. Locks mount on and gets his back, CB reverse and their back on the feet. Slugest and Dolloway gets the takedown. Hammerfists on top and the round ends with Dolloway slugging away.

Round 2: Hamman jabs at Dolloway, who’s on the defensive. Dolloway is looking to counter, as Hamman is on his toes. Hamman gets into a slugest, goes for a big knee and Dolloway nearly catches him in a double. Another slugfest and Hamman winds up in side control. Dolloway is eating a lot of punishment, Hamman throwing knees to the midsection. North south winds up with Hamman standing throwing punches to Dolloway, who’s covering up. Hamman catching him with some big shots, posturing to a stand and throwing that way. Hamman back into side control and throwing some big elbows to Dolloway. Gets him into a mounted crucifix near the cage, switching to a full mount. Hamman is unloading and Dolloway is not doing anything. Dolloway spins out and Hamman gets into his guard again. Throwing big time shots and winds up in a headlock. He’s battering Dolloway, who tries to escape but Hamman gets him back down. Side control and Hamman is unloading, Herb Dean stops it. TKO victory for Hamman.

Main Card

Amir Sadollah vs. Duane Ludwig

Round 1: Both cautious going in. Amir is controlling the octagon and corners him. They get into a slugfest and then into dueling clinches. Amir pushes him against the cage but Ludwig reverse position. They exchange knees and both trade positions on the cage. Knees exchanged as this looks like a Muay Thai fight until Amir goes for a double. Ludwig defends and pushes him up against the cage. Amir pushes away and they start trading again. Ludwig gets the better, connecting with a high kick and some jabs. Ludwig is winning the exchanges so far and hits a good body combination. Ludwig hits a leg to the head on his left and then to the body with the right several times. Ludwig connects with a big left and Amir is hurt. amir goes for the double but Ludwig pushes him against the cage. Ludwig lands an elbow. Ludwig lands more to the right side of Amir and ludwig is stalking him, punishing Amir. Round ends standing.

Inside Fight score: Ludwig 10-9

Round 2: Amir comes out more aggressive but Ludwig is connecting significantly more. He keeps throwing front push kicks to keep him back and find range but Ludwig is countering with movement. Ludwig goes the body and connects. Amir is letting Ludwig dictate the pace and Ludwig is winning the fight as it stands. Amir is keeping this a kickboxing fight and Ludwig is out-classing him. Amir misses a takedown and they exchange jabs. Ludwig is capitalizing on Amir’s lack of hand control, as he’s lowering them repeatedly. Ludwig is throwing to the left of Amir and connecting repeatedly. Ludwig rocks him with a left hook and Amir goes for the takedown to no avail. He also eats a knee for his efforts. Ludwig goes for the takedown and gets deep to Amir, who goes to his knees and then stands back up. Amir with a great sprawl to keep back up. They back off after some pummeling as Ludwig wins another exchange between the two.

Round 3: Amir comes out with a sense of urgency and hits a push kick to the face. He’s pushing forward nd goes for the double and gets it. Ludwig is back up quickly, spinning away. Amir is starting to throw a lot at him, letting loose a number of power kicks to the head and body. Amir goes for another takedown and Ludwig blocks it easily. They start exchanging punches and both are tired. Neither is throwing as hard or as crisp. Amir with a big front kick to the face and he’s pushing the pace. Ludwig stops another takedown and this becomes another exchange. Ludwig wins some more exchanges as Amir is pushing the fight but isn’t connecting a lot.

Amir with a head kick that’s blocked partially and he’s really beginning to turn the pace up. Ludwig is sitting back and countering, hitting more than Amir is. Ludwig takes Amir down with 30 seconds and pins Amir to the cage. Amir blocking the double with a crotch lift, but the round ends with Amir down and Ludwig connecting a couple times as time expires.

Charles Oliveira vs. Donald Cerrone

Round 1: Quick exchanges and Oliveira eats a knee for his efforts. Cerrone is controlling the octagon and Oliveira goes for the takedown, blocked by Cerrone. Cerrone with a low blow, stopped for Oliveira to recover.

Cerrone throwing some great combinations and controlling the octagon. Oliveira goes for the throw and Cerrone stops it easily. Cerrone goes inside and Oliveira responds with a body kick. Cerrone rocks him with punches and goes down. Cerrone capitalizes and starts throwing hard, Oliveira stops defending himself intelligently and ref stops the fight.

Winner: Donald Cerrone by TKO at 3:01 of the first.


Jim Miller vs. Ben Henderson

Round 1: Both come out throwing quick jabs, Miller getting the better of early on. Both are throwing and getting out quick. Miller is getting the better of it, but Henderson locks him up in the clinch. Miller circles and goes for a throw but Henderson defending well. Miller wraps in a standing arm triangle and has his body locked around Henderson, who’s back against the cage. Miller trys to transition to his back and Henderson slams him down, winding up in Miller’s guard. Miller tries to work into mission control but Henderson defends out of it, Miller eating some ground and pound. Miller escape and Henderson chases him down, pinning him against the cage. Miller eats some knees and looks to be working for a standing kimura. He takes it to the ground and Henderson defends. Miller puts his leg over Henderson’s. He loses it and Henderson lands in a front headlock. Miller goes for the guillotine but doesn’t have it locked, mainly holding the chin. Henderson throws some big shots and Miller looks for a leglock but Henderson manages to back off. Big elbow from Henderson and round ends with Miller eating some shots.

Round 2: Miller starts out pressing the action with Henderson keeping him at bay with a jab. Couple exchanges and Miller ends up wining. Henderson throwing wild and presses him against cage, double underhooks and a trip takedown. Miller in full guard, has it tight. Miller pushes him off but Henderson gets back on quickly, landing in half guard against the cage. Miller trying to roll out, going for a leg lock but can’t finish. Henderson makes him pay and lights him up. Locks in a herl hook and has it tight, Henderson slips out and presses him against the cage again. Tries for a guillotine and can’t finish it. Another heel hook and Henderson is trying to get out of it, loses it and Henderson his back, making him eat punches and knees then slams him to the ground. Miller gets back up and looks for a kimura, winding up on his back again. Miller almost has it and Henderson hitting him in the midsection and the face. Miller is cut up on the face and Henderson has him locked up against the cage. Miller rolls for another leg lock and Henderson makes him pay with punches to finish the round.

Round 3: Miller starts out by making Henderson move backwards, connecting with some jabs. Miller wins some striking exchanges as both are throwing wildly. Henderson hits him the leg and he’s darting in and out, too fast for Miller. Miller drops him with a left and Henderson grabs a single to hold on, switches to a double and scoops him to the cage. Henderson has him pressed against the cage and is making him eat some shots, eventually getting mount on him. Miller rolls him but Henderson has a rear naked choke on. Miller rolls through and Henderson lets go, but still has hooks in. Henderson goes to throwing punches down and gets side control on Miller. Miller rolls through and gets to his knees but Henderson is still in control. Miller eats some elbows and Henderson is just rocking him.

Henderson goes for a guillotine and has a partial mount but Miller is defending. Lets go for body shots and they throw wildly to finish.

Dan Hardy vs. Chris Lytle

Round 1: Lytle comes out throwing some big shots, connecting with a big right. Hardy with a nice combo but Lytle is throwing everything at Lytle with massive power. Hardy connects on the way out, though. Hardy comes back throwing and a nice knee to the body, as well. Lytle comes back with a couple bombs and Hardy catches him again on the way out, then reversed. Hardy is hitting some good counter punches and Lytle hits him in the body a couple times. Lytle is throwing wildly and Hardy is staying disciplined with his hands, as Lytle is missing much more than Hardy is. Hardy with some good straights and Lytle comes back with some big winged shots. Hardy is staying disciplined with his hands, keeping his chin down and his hands up, looking for his spot. Lytle with a big left to the chin and Hardy is almost rocked but not quite, then clips him after another solid combination. Lytle is dictating position as Hardy isn’t throwing enough leg kicks to keep him at bay.

Inside Fights score: Lytle 10-9

Round 2: Lytle comes out with some big shots and Hardy is eating some big shots to start. Lytle is working the body more because Hardy is protecting his face more than his body. This is much more a sloppy boxing match than MMA right now. hardy comes back after he rocks Lytle and tags him again on the other sid eof the cage. Lytle goes to the clinch and they exchange positions on the change. Hardy pushes him back and Lytle is slowing down before an accidental eye poke.

Lytle comes out after the stoppage and throws some vicious shots but Hardy gets out of the way, smiling in the process. Hardy clips him again with an uppercut and then a knee, then goes for the double leg. Lytle blocks and stands up, looking to strike again. Lytle is throwing some big shots but Hardy keeps catching with him smaller ones on the counter, including a good standing knee. Lytle keeps throwing big hail mary shots and Hardy is avoiding or blocking them with forearms, connecting with smaller shots. Lytle with a lead right but not much on it. Lytle catches him with some work to the body, Hardy responds with a big hook and a straight right. They end the round throwing wild.

Round 3: Lytle comes out throwing again and Hardy is patient with some counter, looking for his jab and the knee to the head. Lytle starts with a leg kick, and Hardy throws one for the first time since the third. They’re exchanging and landing smaller stuff and missing the big shots. Lytle with some good combinations and Hardy comes back with some wild shots of his own.

Lytle throwing some wild rights but not connecting flush to the head but connecting solidly to the body. Hardy is starting to move side to side but Lytle keeps throwing big and wild while missing them. Hardy comes back with some good jabs. Hardy starts to push the tempo wiht a minute left and gets the takedown. Lytle locks on a guillotine and gets the mount. Hardy taps.
