Davey Richards Talks Ring Of Honor, CM Punk, And Who’s The Best In The World

News

Davey Richards is probably one of the most intense wrestlers competing today. A protege of Japanese superstar KENTA, Richards has risen to become one of the top talents in the Philadelphia-based wrestling promotion, Ring of Honor. Two years ago at The Final Countdown Tour: Boston, Richards was one of the last opponents Bryan Danielson (WWE’s Daniel Bryan) faced before going back to World Wrestling Entertainment. The match was so well received that Richards was given the moniker “The New Best in the World,” a nickname of distinction since many have proclaimed Danielson to be the “Best in the World.”

As Richards was prepping for his World title defense against a competitor he knows all too well, Roderick Strong, at the first SBG TV taping, he took the time to answer some questions about Ring of Honor Wrestling and what the future holds.

Regarding Sinclair Broadcast Group’s purchase of Ring of Honor:

“We’re no longer going to be the little engine that could. We’re getting major support from someone who believes in us. Great things will come of it.”

What he thinks of WWE superstar CM Punk referring to himself as best in the world:

“I don’t think he’s the best in the world. I don’t think I’m the best in the world. I think Ring of Honor is the best in the world.”

Why he’s dedicated to ROH, the promotion that brought him into the fold in 2006:

“You can tell the wrestlers who are there for a paycheck. Ring of Honor really stood out to me because wrestling was put first. Everyone out there wanted to be the best, and it was the kind of place where I wanted to be.”
