Sexyama is going to get a little bit less sexy, apparently, as the Japanese fighter is going to drop from Middleweight to Welterweight following a devastating knockout loss to Vitor Belfort less than a month ago.
Akiyama, who is 1-3 in the UFC and 14-4 with two no contests overall, intends to drop down 15 lbs and wants to become the student to the master of the division: Georges St. Pierre.
Speaking to Japanese outlet Sponichi, the 2006 K-1 Heros Light Heavyweight GP champ wants to debut as a welterweight at the UFC’s rumored return to Japan in February 2012.
