The Rager – The Troubles of Matt Hardy and Your Input is Requested!

Columns, Top Story

Welcome to your regularly-scheduled Rager, I am your indubitable gondolier, Chris, and I am here to assist you in making sense of this murky bucket of goo that is the wrestling world and serving it to each and everyone of you but in a more condensed, rage-flavored and not-at-all sticky plate of goo. After a trying week for yours truly personally, I am back and ready to get my rage on.

Last time…
I had my showdown with Pulse’s own Rhett Davis with Joel Leonard moderating (in case you missed it) and then at the conclusion, a winner was to be declared, however, Joel held the title hostage for himself because…well…he’s a nerf herder (I can’t lie and call him scruffy-looking). All I have to say about that is that Joel better watch his back and Mike Gojira, you’re time is coming, brah. Nobody calls me one the stooge, unless its Curly because he’s a pimp.

Digressing
Last week, we discussed a great multitude of things but one issue we stayed away from, not necessarily by design, was the Matt Hardy kerfuffle. Don’t get me wrong, we had something planned where we would place him on the “Drunken Idiot Scale” with CM Punk being a 0 and Mel Gibson being a 10 but in the grand scheme of things, I’m glad we stayed away from it for almost the same reasons WWE allegedlytold their superstars not to be in contact with him and it all comes down to image. Of course its a bigger issue for WWE because they don’t want to be the ones linked to a another possible death, whether self-inflicted or not. The reason I’m glad we ended up not touching it is because, well for one, had something happened to him, I would of felt kinda bad for ripping into a guy with serious issues no matter how much he deserved it. Of course, now we know he didn’t really mean to sound suicidal and said he was just building up to announcing his retirement. Now that he cleared all that up, allow me to rip into him.
I live by the motto that “words matter” and whether or not you admit it, you always mean what you say so you better be clear about it the first time around. I know Matt seemed sincere in his response/apology/retirement video but there was just something in the back of my head that kept yelling “He’s full of it, he meant to do it like that just to get attention.” Of course, I don’t know the man so I’m not gonna know for certain but there was simply something disingenuous about it all. And quite honestly, he’s given us no other choice but to think that because every one of his videos come off as “hey hey hey, look at me!” because apparently appearing on television on a regular basis wasn’t enough. He said he was “going out of the box” but I think it was he’s last attempt at a cheap emotional pop. I take a harsh stance on suicide and that its the most selfish and immature things a person could ever do. The person is just giving up and robbing their loved ones and giving them something to suffer through for the rest of their lives and for Matt Hardy even to allude to it (even by accident) just adds to his offensive stupidity. I’m glad he “cleared” things up and he’s not at risk, I do, but he needs to fix this childish obsession with attention. I’m sure I’m not the first person to ever say that about him.

Moving on…
Back to the actual wrestling world, it seemed like the biggest news of the week that barely got any sort of recognition was HHH seemingly doing away with the brand separation. Like most people, I have mixed feelings about it. I mean, sure WWE wants to try going back to how it was and see what happens but at the same time, this means even less amount of superstars will get any camera time and Superstars (the show) can only fit so many in an hour. Hopefully WWE has some sort of plan or maybe its merely a temporary thing but lets be honest, they have no clue. Hence why there still hasn’t been any logical end to the Anonymous Raw GM and we’ll probably never get one since it hasn’t been active since CM Punk made snow angels.

Taking Suggestions
I was talking to my roommate last week and he had an idea to breakdown several superstars and the psychology behind the character that makes them as such. Again, not talking about the wrestler themselves but rather their character. I thought it was a really great idea but I don’t want to ramble on and on about the same people so I’m opening this up to all of you. Comment below or email me at cwsanders30@gmail.com and tell me who you think would be an interesting study and why. So far, the ones I find interesting is R-Truth, Kane and The Miz. I might even have access to an “expert” on the matter so keep an eye out for that soonish.

That about does it for me, thank you to everyone for reading this edition and all the editions in the past, I really hope you enjoy them as I enjoy getting it all out (catharsis thy name is Rager).
