Deadline has learned that Eddie Murphy has officially agreed to host next year’s Oscars. Today, Oscar producer Brett Ratner is formally telling the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that he’s chosen Murphy to emcee the Oscars and an announcement will be made.
The announcement will come earlier than normal, as typically the host isn’t announced until the month of January.
The article goes on to state that Murphy worships the Oscars. “Nobody knows movies better or is a bigger cinephile than Eddie. Not Brett. Not even Quentin Tarantino. Eddie can quote scenes from every single movie word for word,” an insider tells Nikki Finke.
He’ll bring his love of movies and crossover appeal, and be able to rely on his stand-up performance days as he entertains a global audience.
