Another Sarah Palin Documentary Hitting Theatres? You Betcha!

News

After starting out somewhat strong in small markets, and then flopping once it expanded, The Undefeated won’t be the only documentary to get into theaters focusing on the former Alaskan Governor. Now comes You Betcha! with a decidedly unfriendly vibe towards the rumored Presidential candidate which will be released through DIY distributor Freestyle Releasing.

And again, much like The Undefeated, You Betcha! will be rolling out in a platform release per Deadline Hollywood. The plan is to open in New York and Los Angeles on September 30 and roll out.

What does this mean? The 2012 election is going to get a lot more interesting if Palin is in it, one imagines, and the fact that we’ve had two documentaries to be in theatres about someone who is a relative newcomer to national politics in less than a year is remarkable. The fact that the first didn’t find an audience in theatres isn’t all that shocking; political documentaries aren’t known for their ability to draw in the crowds.

Look for this one to probably follow the same path: open up strong in markets inclined to disagree with her politics and then fail to find an audience once it expands. And once that happens, it’ll probably wind up making more money through VOD and DVD release to attempt to recoup its costs much like The Undefeated.
