2011 Fall TV Premiere Week: 10 Thoughts On…2 Broke Girls Review

Reviews, Shows

Here is the synopsis of 2 Broke Girls straight from CBS:

“2 BROKE GIRLS is a comedy about two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner who strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business – if only they can raise the cash. Sassy, streetwise Max (Kat Dennings) works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner. Sophisticated Caroline (Beth Behrs) is an uptown trust fund princess who’s having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max’s knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money. While they save their tips, they’ll stay at the restaurant, working with Oleg (Jonathan Kite), an overly flirtatious Russian cook; Earl (Garrett Morris), a 75-year-old kool-kat cashier; and Han Lee (Matthew Moy), the new, eager-to-please owner of the diner. Working together, these two broke girls living in one expensive city might just find the perfect recipe for their big break.”

My First 10 Thoughts on the “Pilot” Episode of 2 Broke Girls:

1. I don’t like the laugh track!
2. Kat Dennings is very likable.
3. Beth Behrs is not as likable.
4. But the contrasting personalities seem to work so far for these characters.
5. Anyone remember that Earl the cashier (Garrett Morris) was on the FIRST season of Saturday Night Live back in 1975. Yep, that’s 36 years ago! He did have the best lines of the first episode, though.
6. The annoying music in between scenes got really annoying toward the end.
7. Besides Max (Kat Dennings) all the other characters are pretty stereotypical, which is unfortunate. The potential is there for Caroline to have more depth
8. Can that guy not keep his shirt on?!
9. CBS had to like something about this show, because it only gives the greenlight to a handful of shows each season. It probably will benefit from being between How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men for awhile.
10. Overall there were plenty of laughs in this episode. Not non-stop laughing, but at least half of the episode was funny, which means I will give it some more time to see where it goes from here.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
