NFL 2011 Week 2 Thoughts and Commentary: Dallas Cowboys – 27, San Francisco 49ers – 24

Dallas Cowboys – 27, San Francisco 49ers – 24

Rhett Davis: Dallas narrowly pulls out this win with a broken-ribbed Tony Romo.  Romo actually had a huge day throwing for almost 350 yards and getting 2 TD’s.  Miles Austin and Jason Witten both had receiving yards of over 100.  This game seemed to be the complete reverse of what happened last week with the Jets game for Dallas.

Grey Scherl: Tony Romo came back and won this game with a broken rib and punctured limb. That’s hardcore. San Francisco has some good players, but the organization is solidly #3 in a bad division. So the fact that Dallas went to overtime with them should speak volumes about at least one of these teams. Romo not only played through what had to be excruciating pain, but he put up some damn good numbers to go along with it. Alex Smith had a couple of TD’s, but honestly, he still has a ways to go with consistency. This was one of his better games and he still threw pick.

Daniels: The Cowboys did what they should do by beating a worse team.  However, the Niners are looking good under their new coach.  It looks like Harbaugh may get something out of Alex Smith after all.  Liking them a lot to win the NFC West this  year.

Glazer:  Tony Romo is what he is – a very good quarterback when he’s on who’s best against mediocre teams.  The Cowboys simply did not try hard enough early against what they thought was an inferior team and nearly paid, much like the Packers, but it took Dallas overtime to get the win and, well, they looked shakier doing so.  The 49ers at home aren’t bad at all, and it seems down to them or Arizona to steal the West.  Impressive, Mr. Harbaugh.  If Alex Smith ends up decent, this is a team that can even win a playoff game.
