In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Captain America: The First Avenger for October 25, 2011. The film will be available on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD, and in a 2-Disc Blu-ray/DVD combo with more than hour of bonus material, including an exclusive look at next summer’s The Avengers.
Marvel Comics’ latest superhero release was a big hit during the summer, earning more than $355 million worldwide. Chris Evans stars as the title character, along with Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving as villainous Red Skull, Dominic Cooper, Hayley Atwell, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke and Stanley Tucci.
The Blu-ray Disc features 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, and its supplements include a commentary track, “Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor’s Hammer,” seven behind-the-scenes featurettes (“Outfitting a Hero”, “Howling Commandos”, “Heightened Technology”, “The Transformation”, “Behind the Skull”, “Captain America Origins”, and “The Assembly Begins”), trailers, and deleted scenes.
The three-disc Blu-ray 3D set includes everything listed, plus the feature film on Blu-ray 3D.
For the single-disc DVD the only extras are the audio commentary, the featurettes “Outfitting a Hero” and “The Assembly Begins” and trailers.
