First Poster For Steven Spielberg’s War Horse Screams Give Me An Oscar

Ready, set, go. The Oscar campaign for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming drama War Horse has arrived and this first one-sheet continues its push. You may remember the teaser trailer that appeared during the summer, and while films like The Ides of March, Moneyball and The Descendants have played at festivals, War Horse is one of a few films that have yet to be screened.

But this is Spielberg – he doesn’t need festivals or early critic approval. He’s directed a number of classics and has two Best Director Oscars and many more accolades to show for it. Spielberg is hoping that audiences won’t mind an enriching drama set against the backdrop of the First World War.

War Horse is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, which was also turned into an acclaimed stage play. The film follows a young man named Albert (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse, Joey, and how their bond is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War I. Despite being too young to enlist, Albert heads to France to save his friend. Besides Irvine, the film also features Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

War Horse giddyups into theaters on December 28th.
