Kurt Angle/UFC Flirtation Revealed Per Dana White – Angle Approached for TUF 10

News

Kurt Angle has hinted that he and Kimbo Slice were to have fought on pay per view as a sort of freak show fight, with the timing of the deal being improper for Angle to prepare. It sounded a bit odd for the UFC to do something like that. Per Dana White, Angle’s story is far from the truth according to an interview he did with MMA Junkie.

“I like Kurt Angle,” White said. “He’s a nice guy. I’ve never had any problems with Kurt Angle. Good guy. Kurt Angle was calling me to fight in the UFC. He wanted to fight in the UFC. He wanted to come over here and whatever, especially after Brock got in.”

White carefully chose his words as he discussed the situation, and he said he didn’t it to sound like he was bashing or disrespecting the 42-year-old.

“What I offered him was, I said, ‘Come over here. I’ll put you on ‘The Ultimate Fighter,”” White said. “The season Kimbo Slice was on, I was going to put him on ‘The Ultimate Fighter.’ He wanted to do it.

“We worked out a deal, but he didn’t pass the medicals.”

It would’ve been an even crazier season that it wound up being, one thinks, if Angle had been on that cast. With Brendan Schaub and Matt Mitrione being slowly built up as prospects, with show winner and former IFL champion Roy Nelson on the cusp of a potential title shot on one occasion, an Olympic gold medalist and former pro wrestler like Angle would’ve given the show an even more bizarre feel than it had with Slice, Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
