Lionsgate has announced in a formal press release the casting of Aaron Eckhart as the star of the upcoming production I, Frankenstein. Eckhart, who has previously appeared in such films as Erin Brokovich, Thank You For Smoking and The Dark Knight, plays Adam Frankenstein, one of Dr. Frankenstein’s creations that has managed to survive to present day due to a genetics quirk. As he navigates his way through a gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans. So, basically, it’s Mary Shelley’s meshed with Underworld. Which is understandable as the film’s basis is the graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux, one of the co-creators of the Underworld franchise.
Stuart Beattie, who has written screenplays for Collateral and Australia among others, sits in the director’s chair for the second time, following his 2010 Australian release Tomorrow, When the War Began.
Lionsgate will release I, Frankenstein into theaters on February 22, 2013.
